Yeah, but I think you have to be able to prove that you pay at least 1/2 their expenses or somtehing like that

Re: If you claim a dependent does?
You can only claim a dependent if you are the head of household, in other words he is dependent on you and you pay a set portion of his expenses. It's spelled out pretty clearly in the tax form instructions.
Since you're claiming him, he's not claiming himself, which means you may actually get less money back as a couple. Make sure to read the instructions very clearly b/f filling out your forms, or get a tax advisor if you have a unique situation.

Re: If you claim a dependent does?
R&T You should be able to claim him as long as no on else is claiming him. You will get back more money if you have claimed single on your W-4 and are paying taxes at the single rate which is higher than the head of household rate.

Re: If you claim a dependent does?
you will get a lot more money back...DH was considered head of household (until we got married) and he claimed his mother
you don't have to pay as much in taxes either
just to give you an idea...he paid $18,000 to the Fed govt throughout the year (rated as single) and he got back about $9000...this is not including state tax...
but once you are not married I don't think you can do this anymore
