How do you express to someone that you would appreciate it if they don't engage in such behavior around you?

Well where do you hang out with them? Is it at a bar/club? Maybe if you tell them you woudl like to stay away from that scene they will get the hint?

Drinking I don't know how you would do that. But drugs-- simply what you said is appropriate!

We were at a family BBQ and this person did the drugs at the table. I almost fainted!

People drinking around me doesn't really bother me...but if people are doing drugs, I leave.

OK, that is a little out of the ordinary. I think you can simply say, 'I would appreciate it if you didn't pull out your 'crack pipe' in inappropriate places.' Be straight forward.

Well I seperate drinking alchol from drugs. I have never, ever done any drugs. Drugs are illegal so that is super easy for me NOT to allow around me or in my home. In fact, being 32 it has been a very, very long time since someone has even taken drugs out to do- that was much more of a high school/college thing. BUT if someone was going to try and have it around me I would simply say 'I would appreciate it if you would not do any drugs near me/in my home.' period. end of discussion. If they don't care about your feelings then they are not your friends anyway and good riddens. Oh, I just read more so I must add: If someone ever did drugs at a family BBQ at a table T then hell would probably break out because I would simply tell them that if they continue this behavior I will call the Police and then they can explain their immature, illegal behavior to them. Trust me T- I would NOT hesistat to express my digust and I would honestly call the Police! There is NO excuse for that- and when you say Family I am thinking children may be present as well.
drinking- even though I do not drink, it is because I don't like the taste- never have. so i do not mind having wine, alchol, beer served in my home or around me. If I didn't drink due to an addiction problem I would think that most people would know that and respect the fact that alcholism is no joke and that person should not be tempted. Those who didn't care would again, not be real friends and I would never hang out with them. If I didn't drink for religious reasons then I would ask others to respect our beliefs inside our home, but at other places i don't think it is fair to force others to not drink.
