Do you have keys to each other's apartments..or did you before you were married/moved in?
I have keys to FH's apt (I practically live there) and my mom just gave him keys to this house.

Re: If you don't live together
I asked my landlord if i could give him one since she lives downstairs and shes alone. I didn't want her to be freaked out if she saw a big guy coming in. I got lazy and never actually gave it to him but he has free run of the place.

No because I live on LI and he lives in Queens. I pretty much never go to his apt. because he lives in a studio with a roomate. (sooo annoying, don't get me started!!)So he comes here on weekends and is always with me.

When I lived in Jersey, FH had a key to the apt. We didn't have a buzzer, it was a two family building, so it made my life a lot easier.

He lives with friends and I live with my parents, we both have keys to each others houses. We have had them for a long time.

Re: If you don't live together
We did prior to living together.
Actually, it was sort of funny. We'd been dating for about three months when I had to move out of my apt. and into another unit in the same building. My mom walked up the block to make a set of keys for herself (she always fed the cats when I was away and I wanted her to have them anyway).
When she got back, she gave me back my keys and said, 'Oh, I made a set for Bob too!' That was a little weird. But it made it easier for me to broach the subject of swapping keys with him. I think I just said, 'here, my mom made you a set of keys to my apartment.'

Re: If you don't live together
WE did after we had been dating a while. I got his key first, actually since he lived alone in a big apt. building. I lived in a basement apt. and my landlords were retired and almost always home, so if I locked myself out, they were around. While he had my key, it was really for emergency purposes, since I wasn't sure how my landlords would have felt with him coming and going without me home.

We did before we got married. Even when he was living in London and I was living in NY we had keys to each other's places

Not when had roommates--that would have been rude.
Whe I lived alone, he had my key--it was realy 'our apt,' he just pretty much slept at home.
I didn't have a key to his parents house. I would never just enter his parents house on my own. Not even now.

It's the same, He lives alone, even though I sleep here most of the time, it's 'our' apt so I come and go whenever. I don't think the landlord cares. I never thought about it.
He's alwyas here at moy mom's house which is why he has the key, but he dones't just walk in unexpectedly, we always know he's coming. And usually he rings the bell. He'll only use the key if he was already here and he ran out for something, or if we're not home

Re: If you don't live together
I lived alone, DH lived with his parents for the majority of our relationship. He never had keys to my apartment. We moved in together about 3 months before we got engaged.
