If you get married at your the place you are having your reception...
I know that a Chatholic Priest will not come and marry you. So I guess this means that you technically didn't make the sacrament of marriage. So my question is...can you raise your children Chatholic? I was talking to a friend yesterday and she said her cousin just had a baby and she was going to the Baptism, and then she told me the story of how the church would not let the Baptism take place until the parents got married in a church. I couldn't believe it and now i'm worried. Anyone else hear of this???????

I don't think that is true. my sister and bro n law never got married in the catholic church and both their children have all their sacrements.
also what about a jewish groom and a catholic bride if they have interfaith they can raise their children catholic.

That is definitley not true. My cousin and his wife got married at our village hall-no relgious ceremony. Their kids were all baptized in the catholic church and attended Catholic school. Their son is my God son.
Don't stress it

it actually is true.. my friend has been married for a few years now and did it at the reception hall. her son is being baptized next month and in order for him to be baptized in the church, they have to be remarried in the catholic church.

It is not true - I spoke to my church when we decided to have an outside ceremony. You could be Jewish, Christian, catholic, anything and still raise your children catholic. The only things is that the church will not recognize that you are married ( as parents - unfortunatly). I spoke not only to a priest about it but also a youth minister at the church and friends that have done the same.
That would be like saying the church doesn't recognize children that come from divorced families b/c their parents did what the church says is wrong.... I am catholic and do feel like the catholic religion is a bit too intense with some of the beliefs Nicole - your friend should talk to someone else at her church...

i think sometimes that each church makes up their own rules. sounds like the one your friend went to is a bit more conservative than other catholic churches that are a bit more lenient.

there are some catholic priests who will marry you in the RH- you have to get a dispensation from the church in order for the ceremony to be recognized. FM me if you want their info!
