I have a Dell Inspiron 600m and I LOVE IT - its totally portable with a big enough screen to use everyday!

ETA: I also have an IBM Thinkpad for my job and love it as well...its more pricey though for the same gadgets...

I have an IBM ThinkPad and it is great. It was $$$$ if that is a consideration.

Thanks. Thom gave me a great coupon for Dell but I think it just expired and I get a discount at IBM and Mac from school, so I'll keep looking into those 3 brands. I'm a little nervous with a laptop. I've never had one before and it's hard to switch parts if you need them, plus FH who is a a computer person knowns nothing about them, but at school the reccomend laptops and the offer free support for the IBMs and MAcs bought through them, so maybe I should go with that?

I've heard such good things about the thinkpad, I'm going to look at it but I don't know.

I have had 2 IBM thinkpads but they never felt perfect. I always found myself thinking my wrists were just not long enough for the IBM think pad. It was a great computer, but not for my small hands. I now own a toshiba portage notebook laptop. It swivels flat so I can write on it with a stylus. It is the best laptop. I feel like it was made for me - it is proportioned correctly for my hands. I also have a Dell desk top, which I love too. I am not sure how the Dell laptops perform but I love my Dell desk top.

I've had 2 Dell laptops - both crashed and burned - the first one when it was only seven months old. I've been so often disappointed by PC's that I finally switched to MAC. I LOVE my new powerbook - took some getting used to, but definitely worth it.

I have an HP/compaq nc4000 with an intel pentium 4. I love it! Especially now that I spend so much time using it to plan my wedding.

How did your call to Compaq go?

I would never ever ever buy a compaq. I've seen way too many problems with them!

I have an IBM thinkpad - check with your school, too...when I bought mine through St. John's they had an extended waranty and free service at IT as long as you are a student.

At school they have an IBM discount. I can't seem to get through on the site though. But with IBM and Apple my school can do warranty related repairs on site, which is SOOO great. IBM and Apple of course are 2 of the mosre expensive brands, but I think I decided it's worth it. I'm not sure yet, But my school pakaged me out for about $6K in 'expenses' so I might use that. it's such a low interest rate.
