How in the world did you go about having guests take them home and so forth?
Im thinking about having floating candles, but this it might be highly tacky if there is a mad rush to dump out water in the bathroom at the end of the night.

Re: If your centerpieces had water....
People leave at different times, don't let this be a major factor It reallt matter with what it looks like while everyone is enjoying your wedding not when they're prepping to go home

I was also thinking of floating candles, and it never crossed my mind that the guests would have a problem getting them home. I don't know what I would do without this site!

my thought is it is only water, they can always dump it in the bushes, etc...

This was a problem that my cousin and his wife had....beautiful CP of hydrangea filled with water...it was so heavy people just left them behind! I insisted that we take it though

I'm thinking of floating candles, too. The only solution I've been able to come up with is having plastic wrap on hand so it can go over the top and hopefully prevent any spills. Just a thought!

I am doing floating candles also. Really didn't think about that. Those that want the centerpieces will either spill out some of the water or wrap it. Some Flower centerpieces have so much water, guest spill some out.

Re: If your centerpieces had water....
the last wedding I attended I got to take a CP home. it was this huge CP in a big glass vase. I dumped out the water outside the hall on some bushes and then put the CP in the trunk (it was too big to sit upright in the car)

i'm having water in my CPs. i really don't care if people take them or not. and if they want them, they can figure out what to do with them. i just want them to look good for the wedding, don't care about afterward

Re: If your centerpieces had water....
I had floating candles and I forgot to tell the DJ to tell people to take them, so my MOH ended up taking a lot of them home. However, the Matre'd put a plastic tub on a table by the door, and they dumped all the water into the tub before packing them up. It wasn't pretty, but by that time the wedding was over, so who cares, right? so if you mention it to the hall ahead of time, they might be able to set something up so the guests can pour out the water.

I wouldn't let that stop you from having floating candles in your centerpieces.

Re: If your centerpieces had water....
I totally forgot to tell the DJ to make an announcement. I ended up with ALL my CPs at the end. The next day, my family emptied the water, returned the sand to sea, washed the seashells, and threw out the floating candles. It's a shame my guests didn't take any. So MAKE SURE you let your guests know they can take them, and the bucket idea is great! My guests could have just dumped the water right in the lake : ) Too bad I didn't think to ask LIW...
