If your pet was sick........

Original post by Margaret

what lengths would go to save him/her??

Just curius b/c me and my husband have spent a lot of time and money caring for our two cats. We love them like our children (as I know everyone on here does). However, when I talk to people (some who are even pet owners themselves) they are are taken back by what we do for them.

Oli, our little girl, got really sick and spent a month in the hospital last year. We spent a small fortune plus went into the city everyday to visit her. People actually laugh at me when I tell them her story. 'All that for just a cat', they say.

So, if your pet was sick/injured, would you do all means possible if you could save them? Would money draw the line for you?? Is there an amount that is too much?? Is having to care for a sick pet too much?? Would your DH/FH agree with your decision.

Pet insurance has saved so many of my DH's clients! He recommends it highly to everyone.

I almost cancelled mine til I read this response. I will keep it if a vet says it's worth it.

Depends on the company...I'll ask him tonight which is the company he recommends.

I have www.petinsurance.com. See if that's a good one.

My cat was sick and we spend $5000 on surgery for him. People were so rude with their comments. My parents agreed with us: when you own an animal you are committing to paying for his health care. You have a responsibility to him.

By the way, I have that vpi (pet insurance). I just cancelled it today. Because after three years of having it, it was a complete waste of money. It never covered anything.

My cat is fine now. I kept thinking....there is nothing I could buy myself for $5000 that I would love more than having my cat.

Re: If your pet was sick........

Everyone's stories are so sad. There is something about animals getting sick that just breaks my heart.

Karissa - I have the same insurance as you, the company is actually called VPI. They paid for almost half of her expenses, which was decent even though we were expecing a lot more reimbursement. But half was better than nothing considering Oli's care was very, very expensive. She is doing so good now. Both of our cats have asthma but we are dealing with that. Makes me sick at the thought that the vet even suggested we put her to sleep.

am470 - I completely agree with you, there is nothing better that I could buy that would replace the love and joy I get from my little ones. Funny how people are willing to throw their money on junk but wouldn't care for their pets.

VPI, the pet insurance you mentioned, is what my DH recommends. There are different level plans...the more expensive plan covers more.

I would do anything for my dog unless the treatment was futile, or would prolong any pain or suffering for her. I love her so much, but I would not want her to suffer in pain for the rest of her life just because I would want her to be alive.

I would spend any amount of money to help her get better, if thats what she needed.
