Heehee.. thats funny.. my FMIL was telling me how she bought these necessary 'things' for her others kids kitchens - IE double boiler - anyway, tells me she will get me stuff like that when we have a bigger place.. #1 our kitchen is pretty big with a lot of cabinet space... #2 pots, pans and stuff like that is on my registry for a reason!!!! we NEED them... what does she get me... a 3rd pair of waterford flutes! yes i have 6 crystal waterford flutes... but you know.. we dont have anywhere to put them but apparently we have room for 3 crystal boxes, which adds up to the space of putting pots away one inside the other in a cabinet, and we probably won't ever really use use these flutes! (dont even have a curio or china cabinet to display them in).. but our appartment is too small for pots and pans!!!!.. Yeah cause she keeps buying things we DONT NEED!!! WHAT THE HECK!!!

just VERY fustrated! the one yr there is a BIG list of things I want and NEED and nothing was bought off it (our registry)! Except our (expensive) knives from my parents and some of our everyday glasses from my sister!

Just trying to figure out how it is important to have 6 crystal waterford flutes over pots and pans!?!?

Gotta love it! Thank goodness for me, most of the in-laws don't reside in this country; they work nerves from thousands of miles away, I can't imagine if we lived in the same part of the world!

Those are best kind of in-laws!

I just have one question, did your future in-laws get you a Xmas gift? I didn't get a damn thing nor did we get anything for our engagement, not even a freakin card. Talk about cheap! Meanwhile, my family got my FI more presents then myself.

They get me stuff, but as I say, 4 Christmas' and they have no idea anything about me really. I get clothes that are too big and stuff... at least my p's when they are shopping for a gift for FH either give him cash or ask me what he can use or likes and his size. First Christmas we were together I got a $5 gift, my p's got him a bottle of Burmello (sp) Red wine which I told them he loves. Based on my top ten list - I could pass on gifts (would prefer it) if I could get respect... that would be the best gift!

OMG, and I thought my fils were bad. My fmil is an absolute drama queen, and ffil never says a word, but makes sarcastic comments. It's always fun to get together with them. This year was no exception, they showed up an hour late, with thousands of gifts that no one can use and took over my living room. (Mind you we had 13 people for Christmas dinner). The gifts were fine, just things I really don't need or have room for, but that's her way of being spiteful b/c she assumes that she knows me (mind you we have our registries with things we can use). To even attempt to describe what transpired would be too long, but let's just leave it with fmil starting a fight with her fil, crying, and complaining the rest of the evening. Along with her typical trying to take charge of how the evening would flow and lack of help.

Gotta love it. At least FI is different and they annoy him just as much.

we got a gift card for Fortunoff's -where we are registered and FMIL said that she just did not know what to get us-

thanks for the effort

I don't see my FIL's often and they live down the hall from us. But...they are pros at nagging my FH and making him feel guilty. He's an only child and they do a lot for him which I think is so he doesn't move away from them. He's lived in the same apartment building since he was born - the only change is that now he has his own apartment at the other end of the hallway! We need to move out so very badly.

I left one out too...

Okay, I lost all faith in humanity... my friends tact and grace apparently no longer exist.

OMG that is awful! My FILs are all anti-cat (not as anti-cat as that Uncle!) - whenever I tell them I can't wait till FH and I get our house so we can get a cat they say 'Eww - a cat? Why? Aren't you afraid of cat scratch fever'

You know, I am not a fan of cats, but I have something called TACT.

I had the opportunity to spend some lovely time with the ILs myself this weekend - they came down for the First night of Chanukah. Here's a good gem for you.

MIL: So, where are we going for dinner tonight?
Me: Well, Adam and I checked around to see which Chinese places will be open - (ed: we live in DE, so it's not like even all the Asian places are open on Christmas)
MIL: Chinese? What about a Steakhouse? Wouldn't you rather go to a Steakhouse?
Me: Umm, it's Christmas. All the steakhouses are closed.
MIL: Yeah, so, isn't that a big night to go eat out for dinner?
Me: Uhh, no. All that's open are Asian places, and being that we're in Delaware, not even all of them are open.

Ok. EVERYONE. EVERYONE KNOWS that Jews go to the movies and eat Chinese food on Christmas because nothing else is open. How on Earth do you miss that??

That is so funny! A steakhouse on Christmas - unless it's a Kosher steakhouse and I hear ya that out of NY that may be hard to find (only one I know is in Queens) - Chinese would be the only option.

And NYGIRL77 we need to find you an apartment. I give you lots and lots of credit to live with the in-laws under the same roof! I'm in Real Estate - let me know when you and your FH want to get a place!
