So I have been so excited about this whole wedding thing, and now that I am engaged being able to actually turn all my lil dreams into reality (meaning the reality that fits my budget and what FH likes too).
So everyday I say tomyself, well tomorrow I am going to go and make appointments to see halls. I love going to showcases, but I want to sit down and talk to people and get one on one attention and see it all. Yet everyday comes and goes and I don't pick up the phone. I just continue to make lists of the halls I want to see, visit websites, and read reviews.
Yet I don't know why I am so nervous...I feel like going to some of these places will crush the whole little fantasy of them up in my head. (which will have to happen in order to pick A hall.) And I think I am afraid to hear the real we will put it in writing price for you. (what if i fall in love and it's out of my budget, which I am trying to avoid by knowing what I am walking into first) I just can't seem to put my foot down on why I won't just pick up the phone and call.
If by tonight (or tomorrow b/c I have class all day today) I don't call even one. I think I'm going to give my mom my free time schedule the list of halls I want to see, and have her start doing it. Although I really want it to be me that does this, b/c it is my wedding, and I have sooooooo looked foward to the whole planning process. I love it!!!
So in short, how do I get the ball rolling????

AWWW..... Listen by going to these places you are not commiting to anything so do not worry about it This is supposed to be the fun part and believe me you will know the place when you see it. Do not rush yourself ...you have some time . You are doing the right thing by researching first so you do not waste time and go to places that you do not like .
also why dont you ask around for prices(i'm postive we have a thread about it on this board)...just do not go to the ones that are totally out of your budget

i have probably read every price thing on every board....and I guess the other part with the budget is my parents won't say how much they are going to pay until after we get prices and look and I guess I am so afraid of falling in love and not being able to afford what they can't pay

I had the same problem! thats so weird that you said that ...but i dont want to discourage you with my outcome ...hence the Aruba thing
why dont u tell ur parents what u are going through and write down some of the prices that u see on here....and give them an idea ...see what strikes them to be in their range ...i'm sure they will comment

Maybe I will write down some of the prices and show them. I haven't done that yet. It's just been a discussion between my parents of how much, they disagree, so I think the hall and the pp will be the deciding factor on all, half, part.
And I love the Aruba thing. I can't wait for your pictures!!! (just so you know) But both FH and I always wanted the church wedding, with the big family party to follow (I am actually even looking into the renting unique spaces and getting it catered too). We both have big families, I know everyone couldn't afford to go, and I don't want to leave anyone out. Too boot. I think FSIL is going to do a desitnation wedding once she is engaged....
But I think I will show them numbers, and you are right. I am not committing when I go to look and talk with the halls

That is a great idea. Show them the info, and see what they say. Let them tell you which ones they think you should look at. I know u said ur mom is going to be very involved with the whole planning thing. Sit with her to look at websites and stuff. Hey, maybe she will even up the amount if she sees something u guys both LOVE.
once you find out from them, u will be having so much fun chaecking out the halls.

Chrissy.....the first thing you should do is definitely visit the halls to get a price list..being that it will be an 08 you can get good prices...also you can negotiate anything
so for instance say you fall in love with a place and its over your budget....most are willing to either throw things in or reduce the price by such and such dollars...you can also guarantee more people by lowering the price...you need to also figure out how many people...this will also factor in which hall can suit your minimum....if you will be having a large wedding...you obviously are not going to want a hall that carries such a small minimum or a room that holds a smaller party.
i was scared to ask my parents to see where we stood with the financial issues..my parents were willing to pay more per person and winds up we fell in love with a hall that was under the budget...
don't worry..you'll be able to find a place...once you start making those appts you wont want to stop...after seeing a few halls...i couldnt sleep...i was so excited to see the next hall everytime...
Chrissy..i am sure you will be fine....just take it one step at a time..the most important thing is that you will be marrying the man of your dreams and the place really shouldn't matter...the hall is just a place where you will celebrate with friends and family....
let me know how it works out

Chrissy my advice is to just go. One day when you and Mikey have off during the week get in the car and just drive to every one. Granted you won't be able to see all of them, but it's less formal than making an appointment and you can get the prices. You will be able to eliminate a few that way. Then when you have it more narrowed down, call those halls and make appointments and you can get quotes in writing and try to talk them down. I wouldn't waste time making appointments for all of them b/c you could hate it as soon as you walk in and then half to sit through the whole appointment and speech that they give.
Hope this helps, if you have any questions you know where to get me.
Good Luck!
Oh and I still have those magazines for you. Maybe I will bring them with me on Sat!
