Im a little annoyed... would anyone else get upset?
So my mom came up to me on xmas eve and was like well you know your shower is coming up.... I looked at your registry and I really dont know what to get you so I'm going to get you a giftcard so you can buy whatever you want that you didnt get.
Now I dont want to sound ungrateful but how impersonal is that?! My own mom giving me a gift card instead of going out and buying something?!?!
My FH thinks it may have to do with her not having alot of $$$ to spend and dosent want to look cheap buying me gifts that everyone knows how much cost so with the giftcard people might think there is alot of $$ on there.

Are you really annoyed or are you hurt? If you're hurt, you might want to ask your mom to come shopping with you and to choose what you will get with the card...or you might want to just think about it as she didn't want to take things away from the registry and then you'd get things at your shower you really didn't want. Your wedding is soon...and your shower, so this is your last christmas 'at home' as a single ...just as it was mine. Try to make it a wonderful memory, and perhaps give mom the benefit of the doubt. Especially, if $ is short...maybe it hurt her to not be able to buy lots from your registry! I don't know, JMO.

i dont think this is something to be hurt or upset about
shes still buying you a gift, and alot of people appreciate a choice rather than just one item
there was a story on LIW a few weeks ago where the mob didnt like what her daughtr registered for and got her (i belive) a totally different place setting that the mob preferred that wasnt on the registry
so buck up an djust take what your mom can give you

i would not be annoyed - my parents gave me a visa gift card with $$ on it for christmas to buy whatever i wanted - i was thrilled!!
IMO, when i get upset at my mother for seemingly 'harmless' things she does, I end up looking at the bigger picture: THE RELATIONSHIP in general. - is there something else going on? Something she does that hurts you?

Well christmas is a different story IMO. I just feel like for a shower you should give your daughter something more personal then a gift card. I have never been to a shower where the mother gave her daughter something like that. Its always pieces of china or something like that.

Don't be hurt. You should be grateful that she is at least giving you something. You'll have so much to open during your shower, that it won't seem like something is missing. You could now use the card to get the things people didn't get.

My apologies, I misunderstood you. I'm sorry you are hurt. Your feelings are valid, and if you are upset, it is for a reason. I just tend to think that people (i know i do) get upset over things like this becasue of bigger issues. From an outsiders perspective, it is really not that hurtful. Maybe she is planning on getting you something personal for the wedding?
