Whenever I hear the term ringbearer I always pictured a litle boy who walked down the aisle holding a pillow with the wedding bands on it. But now I keep reading that one of the jobs of the best man and maid of honor is to hold the wedding bands for other gender. (ex., the maid of honor holds the grooms band and the best man holds the brides band and then they give it to the bride or groom to then put on the other ones finger.) SO now Im confused. Help!

i think nowadays the ringbearer is more ceremonial than anything. usually the pillow has some 'faux' rings on it for decoration, but the best man tends to hold the rings itself for safe keeping that day. i would feel worried having the rings tied to the pillow cause a)they might slip off half way down the aisle and b)what if they are tied too tight and they can't untie them during the ceremony!

ITA - i would not trust a little boy with my rings - its just for show
my nephew was a RB in my brother's wedding and he carried those big plastic rings like this:
just so he would be comfortable walking down the aisle - it was too cute!

That is very cute...! Yes the rings are just for show and the best man holds the rings.
