Tonight I went for my first fitting and was really excited about it, especially since my wedding is only 6 weeks away. My dress came in about a week ago and I hadn't seen it yet. It was ordered over 5 months ago. Let me explain that the dress I ordered is a little unique in the fact that a certain measurement needs to be taken so that when the dress comes in, it does not need to be hemmed. It's called a 'hollow to hem' measurement, I believe. Since the bottom of my dress has very delicate scalloped lace on it, the shop orders it to the exact length it should be at. I had to find my shoes before I ordered the dress. To make a long story short, the salesperson I dealt with never put this measurement on the order, so the dress came in over 6 inches too long. Like I said, it can't be hemmed because of the certain lace on the bottom. Needless to say, I was very upset. I don't want to go into details about where I ordered the dress from because they still might be able to make be happy. Basically they need to order me a brand new dress, but like I said I'm getting married in 6 weeks and am so worried it won't come in in enough time. The bridal shop is calling me tomorrow after they call the manufacturer. I am so upset about this and would like to know if anyone ever had anything like this happen, were you able to find a dress in less than 6 weeks?? Part of me is so upset that I don't want to even go back to this shop. I have to have a Plan 'B' in case they come back and say they can't get the dress in enough time that I'm comfortable with. Please help me calm down with this situation - I'm so upset right now....

Liz oh no!!! To make you feel lbetter - I have heard that when it's the store's fault - they put your dress on super rush order and you can get it with plenty of time to fix it and have it in six weeks. I hope that helps hun! - Just keep your chin up!!

If the store messed up, why can't they get you a dress in time for your wedding?
I was able to find a dress in no time and I took it home with me that day. If the store didn't have it in it was going to take up to 2 weeks. But I should point out that my dress was very simple and I was very easy going with my dress. I got mine at Jessica McClintock in Roosevelt Field. Good Luck with everything and I'm sorry you're going through this.

I bet the store, if reputable, should get you a dress in no time. If you are worried, I know it doesn't sound glamorous, but if you can find a dress you like at David's Bridal that fits, they do off the rack. So you can definitely have a dress just in case. Good luck! I hope this gets resolved to your satisfaction. Try to stay calm. I know, easier said that done, right?

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that did the salon promise you they'd make sure you have a dress to wear on your wedding day. Make sure you call them frequently and express your concerns...Now I'm worried about my dress. It's an all lace dress and I don't remember the girl at my salon measure my height...come to think of it, it might be hard/expensive if not impossible to fix the hem. I guess I should call them tomorrow. Here' the back of the dress...is your hem similar to this? I hope things work out for you. Oh and if your salon gets a new sample that is similar to your dress and fits you, make sure you tell them to save it in case your dress doesn't get to them in time...a friend told me you could do that.
Re: I'm A Very Upset Bride - First Fitting Nightmare
The salon told me they will call the manufacturer tomorrow and let me know how soon they could get me another dress. I'm just worried about how long it will take and what if they screw up again?? And yes, my hem is very similar to the dress you just posted. If I were you, I would definitely check with your shop to make sure they have all your measurements. Thanks for all your kind words ladies.

I don't know what your dress looks like, but if they can't hem it, can they bring it up from the waist? My dress also couldn't be hemmed, so they took it up at the waist to shorten it. Just a thought.... good luck!
