It's like riding a bike. You'll remember and pick it up quickly!

yeah the ellicptical is great! good workout! most of the wieght machines tell u how to use them with pictures....just go by that....or...just start with something u already know how to do(ie:bicep curls), and while you are doing that, you can just watch people while they are on the machine and see what they do. (i do that sometimes ) by the way, what gym are you in...i go to Synergy in Franklin Square, anyone looking for a gym buddy?? i havent been in a few weeks!

I am! I need someone to motivate me, but I go to LA fitness. I too forgot how to work the machines. Not only that but the doubled the size of the gym since i've been there and I'm scared I won't know my way around and get lost

when it gets warm out we should meet to go walking /running/rollerblading or something like that. i usually end up going by myself, but it would be nice to have some company!

I got to Armritaj in Bay Shore/Deer Park.... The elliptical sounds like a good idea - it will tone you up and help you lose weight???

ok! I may have to start off jogging though, I never ran before so I probably wouldn't be able to go more than a block without passing out. I am ridiculously out of shape.

yes mam.. this is what i used to do and it worked great.. i would start with 10 min (if i hadnt been there in a while just to get back into the swing of things).. then do about 100 crunches and call it a day.. do that for 2 weeks
then bump it up to 15 min and 150crunches do that for 2 weeks
i would continue doing that till i was spending 30 min on the eliptical.. and i would only go every other day. so like mon, wed, fri and then take off the weekends..
i really need to go back to the gym!

oh man, Jenn. I hear ya sister. That my friend, is why I enjoy the comforts of my couch.
Yeah, I say do the elliptical (backwards is great for your butt!) and the treadmill. You won't need any help figuring those out!

yeah it's surprising how fast your endurance picks up...if you start out slow, after about a month or so you will have so much energy that your body will feel like it needs to move around! but...when you stop, it is SO hard to get back into it! (i know from experience, lol) Even just walking at first is good though, that's prob what i will do whenever i get my *** back to the gym!

maybe I can get to the gym before we decide to run so by the time we decide to run I'll have my butt (and hopefully the rest of me) in gear! When I was in college I went every single day, seriously, never skipped a day and I knew that energy you speak of. I feel like a grandma right now

You will be fine!!! But when you get back, can you remind me how to use them too!! It's been awhile since I've seen a treadmill!!

Re: I'm afraid to go to the gym b/c I forgot how to use the machines.
The elliptical machine burns sooooo many calories. Even if you do it at a low intensity, it burns way more than the treadmill. And it's pretty hard to mess up, once you get the hang of it (about 2 or 3 minutes). Make a commitment to start with at least 20 minutes of cardio, and 10 minutes of weights (it's SO important to tone up! You want those arms looking great with your wedding gown!). If you're afraid of machines, that's okay; free weights tone you up better because you have a wider range of motion with them. Just watch an exercise show on cable (or, better yet, borrow a Gilad or a Kathy Smith tape from a friend or Netflix or something) and they'll show you the moves.
I just started going back last week, and i already feel great - I'm sleeping better at night, eating better, and feel less like a big lumpy couch potato all around.
Get to it!!!!

Thanks girls - I feel better already! You know the scene in Pulp Fiction where Bruce Willis' girlfriend says she wants a pot belly b/c she thinks it's sexy? So NOT true.
