I am a member of my church, we go every sunday..they asked for a $500.00 donation for the wedding..no problem..then we paid $200 for the organist/singer (who i adore)..still no problem... then we wanted to have the full choir (mine travels to Italy to sing for the pope, they are amazing)..that cost $600... im up to 1300...now while i have no problem with that AT ALL..im wondering if im STILL supposed to tip my officiant? or is that the donation? i think i have to tip him still...what am i supposed to do (we are very close with him) thanks!!

Re: im alil confused
at my church there was a separate fee for the preist and use for the church...so I would think the officiant needs a little something

I dont think you have to tip the officiant, but our church told us a $25 tip for the altar server is customary.

You are not suppose to tip him, only the alter servers

At my church, they told us exactly what our 'donation' was covering.

Re: im alil confused
you are not to tip officiant. if you REALLY want to, you should make another donation to the church but not to him directly.

I would invite him to the wedding. We are very close with my sisters priest. We invited him to the wedding and bought him a bottle of red wine.

This is what I was told as well. We are not giving our priest a tip.

Re: im alil confused
We tipped our officiant - this was aside from the church and organist donation/payments. We aren't parishioners of the church and the Deacon made every effort to make the ceremony as personal and special as he could having only met DH and I two times total beforehand. I felt he deserved it.

We're close with our officiant, but we're not tipping him - just $20 to the alter server.
