I'm annoyed

I'm annoyed

Our wedding party consists of my fiance's 16 year old second cousin. We sent an invite to him only and did not add '+guest' since he is only 16 years old. His mom called my fiance and told us he is bringing his girlfriend that he has dated for the last year. I have never met her. I am a bit annoyed....am I being crazy or do I have a right to be annoyed by this?

Yes annoyed and nobody should tell you who they are bringing. He was invited alone. Case closed.

Nerve!!!

Honestly.. I would not be annoyed. Sometimes people just assume that guests are invited, when they really aren't. If I was 16 & was going out with my bf for a year... I would actually kind of expect that my bf would be invited... but thats just with my family. Everyone is different.

ETA: If you are really on a tight guestlist budget.. I would talk to your FH's cousin.. No one should really just 'assume' that a guest is invited.

Good luck

What you need to do is stop being annoyed, get on the phone, and tell these people you don't have room to accomodate their guest. That's why the invite was to him ONLY!!!!

Gosh, some people just don't get it, do they?

A second cousin...not even a first cousin...ugh. He's only sixteen...I would ask they not bring her. Tell them no. It's your wedding...if you don't want her there, stand up for yourself. It would be different if it were your FH brother.

His mom called her FH and told him he is bringing her. That's unacceptable. How about asking first before assuming?

This gets me very hot under the collar. I was in my brother's bridal party when I was 17 and I did not assume I was bringing my boyfriend and I was his sister! I was dating him for about a year at that point too. It was really no big deal.

Re: I'm annoyed

What is more annoying is that my fiance doesn't seem to think that there is anything wrong with this.

I told him that if he brings her - I don't want her in any of the pictures! The more that I think about it the more I get annoyed about it.....I know he is in our bridal party but he is 16 years old...

Yes, you have a right to be annoyed. People who just invite whoever they want and then TELL the bride and/or groom that's the way it is have no manners.

I don't think you have a right to be annoyed, yes you might not have met her before, but he is in the BP and usually BP members bring dates. The key thing to think about is, did you invite others with guests?

Awe, I think that is cute that he wants to bring his girlfriend. Maybe he wants someone to slow dance with. He is in the wedding party afterall, that's nice of him to take part. Remember when you were 16? I loved that kind of stuff.

If they have been dating for a year, I would definetely allow the date to come.

I agree. it's annoying that you have to pay for someone you don't know, but he is 16. when you're 16, you're really into the person you're with. and he is inthe BP, so I think its fair for him to presume his date is invited. it's only one extra person, and it's kinda cute they're so into each other at that age! I bet they would both have a really great time at your wedding!!

yes i agree with this as well. it was rude the way she called up, but how would you feel if you were in a bridal party and werent allowed to bring a date?

i was once invited into a bridal party (that i didnt participate in b/c i could not go to the wedding) and at the bridal luncheon (that we had to pay for and she invited us!) she told us flat out, no guests unless you have been dating seriously. i was floored- i mean i spend a lot of money (dress, shower etc) to be in your wedding party and then i have to sit there with no date???

Re: I'm annoyed

People have RSVPd to us with additional guests that weren't invited and honestly I don't care. The funny thin is that my RSVP date was today and I still am waiting on a total of 68 responses. I only have 93 yes's so far and I guaranted 140.....oh friggin well.
