i'm back!
Hi girls!
I am back from my amazing honeymoon.
Our wedding was fantastic. I am working on writing a review, but in the meantime, I again wanted to express my gratitude to everyone who offered me their dress in my time of need.
I also wanted to shed a little more light on the situation and hopefully prevent this from happening to anyone else.
As you may or may not know, I purchased my dress from V I L L A G E B R I DA L of B A B Y L O N. I was always a cheerleader for them, recommending them to everyone who asked for places to dress shop because of the amazing customer service I had received. This is why I feel extra responsible for informing everyone about what happened.
I originally found my dress at another store, who had a bad reputation (ironic), so I decided order from VB.
Not only did I order my dress there, but all 6 of my BMs also ordered their very expensive dresses from VB.
My dress is very simple looking to the naked eye. But an experienced seamstress would have known that it could not be taken in the way the VB seamstress took it in at the waist. It was 'biconically' constructed, meaning sewn together using multiple pieces of fabric as opposed to just one piece, so when she altered it incorrectly, the dress was completely distorted.
What's more, she kept insisting I didn't need another fitting and the next time I should just pick up the dress as my final - imagine if I didn't insist on having another fitting!
And every subsequent fitting where she attempted to fix it, because she was too lazy to do it the right way, she only distorted it more. By the fourth fitting (a week before my wedding) it barely resembled my original dress. Finally, the manager stepped in and told her she needed to start from scratch, reconstruct the waist and do it right.
I cannot begin to tell you the amount of stress this caused me - not knowing whether I would have something to wear a week before my wedding was horrible. As much as I appreciated your generous offers, this was THE dress I wanted to marry DH in, and it broke my heart that I might not be able to.
I was literally crying up until the day before my wedding over it. My eyes were puffy, I had to ice them. It was terrible. And they still charged me over $500 for the cost of alterations.
In the end, the dress was wearable, still slightly distorted. She ended up completely reconstructing the waist of the dress, inserting new boning, etc.
To add insult to injury when I went to put the dress on the day of my wedding, my DOC found a giant mark of black pen on it!
And my bustle broke within 5 minutes of my reception.
What's more, my bridesmaids also had issues with their alterations. The lengths were supposed to all be even at 2 feet from the floor. On the day of and in pictures its very clear that they are all VERY different lengths.
The moral of the story is, have enough fittings until you are comfortable that your dress fits correctly, go to competent seamstress and do your research.
Definitely feel free to FM me with questions.
