I'm back from NY...had my shower. Long

Well I had an exhausting four days of planning. On Friday I flew to NY from San Diego and as I was boarding my plane my FI called to tell me that his Grandmother died on Thursday. It was very sad and I was sorry that I could not be there with him. His grandmother lived on LI and was supposed to be going to my shower with my FI's mom who flew in from Fla. I felt so bad about everything. FMIL and FSIL came to the shower anyway, which was very nice of them. I arrived in NY on Friday night and at 9am on Saturday I had my hair trial which went terrible!!! I wanted my hair half up half down and she put my hair in curlers, then brushed my hair out when she removed the curlers. I don't think my hair has ever looked worse. It was a frizzy rats nest with my crown on top. For some reason my mother liked it! That made me even more upset. I expressed my concern about the hair and asked if she could use a curling iron instead next time. We ran out of time so I never got to see what my hair will look like the day of the wedding. This woman gave me my first haircut as a child, so she really wants to do my hair for my wedding. Anyway, we ran so late that I missed my makeup trial. Then I ran home and washed my hair and then went to my shower. The shower was not a surprise which is good b/c I was so overwhelmed anyway. It was at the Beachtree Cafe in Islip upstairs. The room was so nice and the food was great. I went around to say hi to everyone as I was the last to arrive. I made it around to all of the tables and then saw the table with my 5 BM's and immediately started crying. It was so embarrassing but I couldn't help it. I never see my friends anymore b/c I live in CA. We had 30 people at the shower. I got the perfect number of gifts so I was able to carry everything back in 3 checked suitcases and 2 carry ons. I do have a complaint about Fortunoffs. I waited over 30 minutes to return 2 gifts. It was very frustrating and macy's was so much easier. On Saturday night I had my bachelorette party in Manhattan. We went to Brother Jimmy's and Mad River on the upper east. It was so much fun. Of course my friends got me the veil and candy necklaces and mardi gras beads. I had about 15 people at the party, Including guys since that was my only chance to see my guy friends. I was out till close and woke up early sunday to go back to LI to meet with my MC. He was so awesome!!!! I love him. It's Rick from Invitation to Dance. He had my mom and I cracking up for an hour and I know that my wedding is going to be great b/c of him. After that, my mom and I went to Estelles and finally found her a MOB dress. It is so beautiful and was so inexpensive! On Monday I met with my reception hall, Watermill and picked the menu. It went pretty good. Nothing much to report. Pauline who I met with was very nice and reassuring. Then I went to see my florist to finalize flowers. I had brought in a picture of a cake with fresh roses on it as well as votive holders and candles. My florist, flowers by Rosemarie, loved it so much she kept the picture. Her prices are very reasonable. I have to get back to work, I have so much to do! I need to add that my sister, mom and BM did a wonderful job with the shower.

First off let me extend to you my deepest sympathy on the death of Fh grandmother.
It sounds like a busy few days. About the hair situation, if u are not happy with the hair trial get another one on your next trip in. She might have given you your first haircut, but you do have a choice on what your hair is going to look like the day of the wedding. Good luck, and I am glad you enjoyed your shower!

Oh, Karen, I am so sorry to hear about Kevin's and your loss. My condolences.

And I am sorry about the snafu with your hair trial. That's really a bummer. But it sounds like the rest of the weekend made up for it. Your mention of Brother Jimmy's brings back memories from my days living on the Upper East.

So is this it now? Next time you're back in NY is the weekend of our weddings??

My shower is May 17 in NY and I think the b-party is June 21 here in DC. I can't belive we are in the double digits now...yikes!!
