Are they or aren't they? NICK LACHEY and JESSICA SIMPSON. You'd think if Lachey wanted to stop the tabloid attacks on his marriage, he wouldn't be going solo to Vegas. But that's what he did this past Saturday, flying in for the ubid.com auction benefiting Hurricane Katrina relief. But I'm told Lachey showed no public signs of being a single guy. The women swarmed him but he spent most of his time at the Empire ballroom event hanging with his brother, DREW, and JAMIE-LYNN SIGLER's estranged husband, AJ DISCALA. He hit the after-party at Tao with MACY GRAY, MACAULAY CULKIN, MILA KUNIS, KRISTA ALLEN, DAVID SPADE and BRITTANY MURPHY. 'There were girls all over Nick, but he was behaving himself,' a fellow party-goer reports. 'After the auction, when we were all backstage waiting for our cars to go to Tao, AJ yelled something about going to a strip club, but Nick did not go with him.' As for the buzz that Lachey was a bit smitten by JESSICA BIEL, their chit-chatting was nothing more than friendly banter. Where was Jessica Simpson that night? She was spotted hanging at the Chateau Marmont hotel in West Hollywood with LINDSAY LOHAN.

As the stork draws ever closer, have Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes decided on the place where they'll pledge to stay together until the cold clammy hand of death (career or otherwise) parts them?

The London Mirror says the squirm-inducing squeezes, who kept a firm grip on one another as they cheered on Tom's daughter Bella, 12, at her soccer game in L.A. this weekend, are planning to tie the knot in late November at the swanky Ritz-Carlton resort in Cancun, Mexico.

'Tom's old fashioned,' a snitch tells the paper. 'He wants his child to be born in wedlock. He's very romantic and wants everything to be in place before the birth.'

Katie, 26, whose parents are supposedly less than thrilled she's got a bun in the oven without benefit of a piping hot marriage license (at least according to the Star and Life & Style), 'didn't realize she would show quite so quickly and she's been getting stressed about the whole idea of walking down the aisle with a bump,' adds the source.

Holmes' sweet home
Tom Cruise is buying a mansion in suburban Toledo, Ohio, so that fiancee Katie Holmes, already in a family way, will have a hometown residence near her parents after the power couple's imminently expected wedding.
The three-story red-brick home with white pillars, said to be one of the most imposing residences around, is in a posh Ottawa Hills neighborhood five miles west of town. It boasts nine bedrooms, eight fireplaces and eight bathrooms.
'Word is getting out,' our Toledo source tells us. 'People are already going by the house real slow. It's a mansion.'
Mr. Cruise, 43, went through a third party to enter a contract on the place, owned for 18 years by Toledo asbestos-removal magnate Dale Bruhl. Closing, at an undisclosed price, is set for Tuesday.
Rumors over the weekend had it that the Hollywood couple are moving up plans for a wedding in Mexico to November from Christmastime, in part because Mr. Cruise knows that Miss Holmes' devout Catholic parents, tight-lipped lawyer Marty Holmes and wife Kathleen, were none too pleased with the news of an out-of-wedlock child. Miss Holmes, 26, is a graduate of Toledo's Notre Dame Academy.
Another sign that Miss Holmes soon will nest back home: The village of Ottawa Hills already has approved an application for a fence to be built around the property, we're told.

I don't like them as a couple either, when they were seperate I liked each a lot, but they are just so strange, and now of course bringing a child into the madness, wow...they are REALLY smart
