I'm concerned. The shop where I ordered all of my dresses.....
Will not give me any swatches of the dresses. Why is that? They claim they don't have any, but how am I supposed to find shoes and how are my girls supposed to get theirs dyed? And the manufacturers told me that the shop should have them, so they can't send me any. PLUS, I was upset because even though the sample of my BM dresses is in a different color than I ordered, they had NOTHING from the same company in the color. I mean, you know how you find another gown by the same maker and have your girls try it on for the color? They couldn't do that because they didn't ahve a gown in teh color. I cannot order something from a two inch swatch of fabric. They were bringing me dresses from different makers telling me it was close enough. But I'm sorry, they are not close enough because if they were close enough, they would all use the same freaking swatches! ARGH! I think I am going to go somewhere else to get my girls' dresses. I'm too nervous about this place.

this happened to me in a store and i walked out...
i would go to another store that carries the dress and ask for a swatch. tell them you are 'just looking' and want to buy the dress...

For swatches, I would be more concerned with the manufacturer of the dress -- the one who should be sending the swatches to the store. I've never seen a shop carry swatches of dresses besides the ones that are in the books they have... and I have been a bridesmaid 9 times. It ALWAYS comes from the manufacturer, to the store, to the customer AFTER the order is placed. .... why on earth would a store stock hundreds of swatches that people may or may not need? Not to mention the fading over time!!!
As far as not wanting to order it because the store doesn't have another style in the same color, then that is a problem with the store.
If you don't feel like you're getting good service, find another store definitely -- it's not like you need them tomorrow, you have PLENTY of time to deal with this.
Good luck!

Usually they give you swatches when you go for your fittings... a lot of the time they have to cut the bottom of the dress so they just give it to you from there... Ask if they will give you the swatch then, but I would probably consider looking elseware if you can if they definetly won't give it to you!

The place where I bought my dresses told me I could get swatches when the dresses come in and we cut the hems off.

If you really like the dresses in that store, do you have matching shawls for the dresses? Instead of swatches, I brought one of my bridesmaids matching shawl wherever I needed a swatch - the florist, or tuxedo place, etc.

Well, the MAIN problem is the fact that I can't see a full gown in that color. Even a sample gown. I need to see an actual dress in the color that I am going to order it in because like I said, a two inch piece of fabric is not a good indicator of color. I guess I will just go somewhere with a larger selection to look for a gown in that color by the same maker. And my sister got a swatch as soon as she put her girls' names in the computer. Maybe they were just out of them.

I haven't seen my Bm dresses' color either. Not even the swatch. It was missing from the book. We were behind schedule already so I didn't want to run around& try & find another store. They didn't have any other dreses in that color either. They had swatches in the book of the other 2 reds, I just picked this one knowing it is NOT those colors & is somewhere in the cranberry color family. and I saw teh swatch online.
I know, a risk, but I had a tough time with BM dresses, b/c my BM aren't hear to come with me. They will be in in about a month. When they get them hemmed, I will have 1 of them send be her swatch, but really they will do their own shoes so I don't really need the swatch, expect that I want to buy them shawls that compliment it.

Why can't they just cut a little off the bottom of one of the dresses that is going to be hemmed?

My daughter's BM's got their gowns from Here comes the Bridemaid. She had a decent size swatch on hand, the day the gowns were ordered. Other swatches came in less than a week. If you are near Great Neck I highly recommend Irene who works there. Who is the manufacturer you are looking for?

Thanks, but I am on the other end of the island! The designer is Jordan. Their website says they cannot send swatches.

Most sample dresses are the same color no matter what store you go to... They even show then in the same color online.
As for a swatch for dying shoes you cant get that intil the actual dresses come in. Dye lots are different and what you see on a sample or in a book maybe a bit darker or lighter than the actual dress. Which is why they have you order all the dresses at the same time so they come from the same dye lot. There is no way of getting a exact color.

I know I am not going to find the dress in the color, ANY dress, but in the right color will do. Just so I can see the color on my girls. Some of them are very pale and I want to make sure the COLOR doesn't wash them out.
I can deal with the swatches for dyeing later. I just don't want to end up with dresses that aren't what I had in mind.
