i'm employed! but...

I signed my contract with a school district today - yay!! :)

Bummer is that I was told that it's in the contract that you aren't allowed to take a personal day before or after the school has a day off.... sooo, I can't get off the Friday before my Columbus Day weekend wedding!! The guy was nice and told me to try to petition in a letter, and that the best case scenario would be that I'd get the day off unpaid... that s tinks though, doesn't it? :( I'm gonna be so frazzled!!!!

That really stinks! It's amazing that they can have control over what days you can take off. I'm sure you will be fine. Just take the extra time before the big day to ensure you have everything in order!

I'm probably going to have the same problem... ug. I'm still looking for a job though, so who knows what will happen.

And my fiance keeps telling me that I'm making things up when I tell him that it might be a problem for me to take time off for a honeymoon right away! What a pain in the arse he is.

Congratulations on the job! I am so happy for you!
I say talk to your prinicpal as the day gts closer. My district has the same policy, but I am taking the 2 days BEFORE my wedding off and it is the start of a week-long break! Most principals are understanding---it's your wedding day! My principal is so happy that I am getting married and is cool with me taking the time. they have that policy so that 50 teachers take all take the same day before a break off...

yay!!!!!! it will work out....i have a teacher friend somewhere in NY (why can't i remember where??) and he can't take a personal day unless he's ill and comes back with a doctor's note...no matter what!

my mom works for a school and they have the same rule, but she is allowed to ask for a day off thats before or after a school holiday way way in a advance

A personal day is not a vacation day. I think given the marriage situation, you will be able to put in a written request with a full explanation of the situation.
