im freaking out- a little PERSONAL PROBLEM

ok THIS IS A LITTLE Bit personal but what the heck

-i have been taking the birth control pill for about a year now, and just today i was going to take my pill today and i noticed that i was behind by one day - i know that i took it yesterday - so it wasnt yesterdays that i missed- i took 2 doses today to catch up- but now im so worried that i might become pregnant- because the package said to use a backup method when you miss- but i never realized that i missed i dont know what to do -not yet ready for a baby!

Don't worry I think you will be fine. I use to freak out the same way when I missed but it always turns out fine. Just because you miss one day nothing will happen. Sometimes just to even get pregnant you have to be off the pill for at least more than a month to get it out of your ssystem(as suggested by the doctor).

You'll be ok just keep taking your pill daily.

Take two today and just use backup for I think 7 days. Most likely one day will not matter. I have had that happen before and I just doubled up on the dose in one day and was more careful for that cycle or for the rest of that week.

You should be fine since you doubled up today. I have done it a few times.

Use a backup from now for the next week but chances are you are totally fine. Ive missed many, many times and I was ok. (i know, very bad!)

My doctor tells me that one day won't make a difference, to take the two pills to catch up and keep going. More than one day she says is different. If you are very worried just use backup for the next 7 days. It cant' hurt, and heck, maybe it will make you feel like a teenager again?? (j/k)

I wouldn't worry either. This has happened to me before and I've never had a problem. One time I made a HUGE mistake and I thought it was my off week so I didn't take any pills for a whole week. I didn't realize it until I went to start a new pack and I discoverd that I forgot to take the enitre 3rd week of pills!! Of course I freaked out a little bit, but thank god everything turned out to be okay! I'm not ready for a baby yet either

I was on the pill for 2 and a half weeks, it did not agree with my system, and we used back up methods, and it was still in my system for 2 more months... it completly messed up my cycle, I was late by 1 week, (and it drove me crazy!) so do not worry if it is still in your body, I am sure it is especially if you have been on it for awhile, just use a back up method of birth control.

Can I ask a question? I will be starting the pill soon, and I heard that there is a way that you can skip your period one month by taking the pill longer? Has anyone heard of or done this? Is it safe? I really dont want to have Aunt Flow at my wedding!! Any feedback would help! Thanks!

Lauren: Yes it's true. If you want to skip your period you just skip the placebo pills and start a new pack the day your supposed to start the placebos. I asked my doctor before doing it and she said it was fine. I've only done it a few times. You may want to try it before your wedding since I've heard that some people's bodies don't react to well to it.
I would talk to your doctor before you do it.

antoinette, just to be 100% safe, I'd use a backup method until you start your new pack.
TESTAROSSA19: Yes, it's possible to skip a period on birth control, but only on certain kinds. I know from personal experience that it does not work with Ortho Tri Cyclen, because it is tri phasal, meaning that during the month you are taking different doses of hormones. My sister is on Desogen (I think), and I know she does this all the time. I think you can do it with most pills, as long as they are monophasic.

You should be fine, don't even worry.

I miss a pill here and there, and always double up the next day. I used to freak out everytime I missed ONE pill, use every kind of backup known to man, lol, and run out and spend all types of $$$$$ getting pregnancy tests
One day I finally realized -- missing ONE pill will NOT make me prego.

Also, you could definitely hold off your period, my gyn already told me she will help me schedule it for my wedding and HM

Re: im freaking out- a little PERSONAL PROBLEM

Testarossa, speak to your doctor. I did and she helped me change my period for my wedding/honeymoon. She actually did not recommend not having my period so what we did is about two months ago I stopped taking the pill at day 18 instead of day 21 and I moved my period up a little. So now I am back on track and won't have my period for the big day. Make sure you check with your doc though because some people have a bad reaction to taking each pack back to back without a period in between. Good luck!

I know ieveryone is different, but my Lord, I've skipped a pill and doubled up about 100 times (no exaggeration) in the last 10 years! You'll be fine!

Re: im freaking out- a little PERSONAL PROBLEM

testarossa - yes you can do this, but personally when I tried it I was very very bloated and had some spotting, ( a lot) so be careful. The best thing to do is to take like two extra pills each cycle until you've changed your period by however many weeks you need to. good luck!

Re: im freaking out- a little PERSONAL PROBLEM

Testarossa - I've done that a bunch of times, with no problems or side effects. Generally, I'd just push it off for a week rather than skip a whole month. It affects evertyone differently. Definitely do it a few months before the wedding so you're back to normal in plenty of time.
