I'm freaking out!! — long

My dad just screwed me over. He convinced me and FH to use my parents time shares for our HM. Even though I have already been to Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta, I agreed to use the timeshare so FH could save money. My dad them gave us Delta Skymiles to use for our airfare. I know it sounds great, but it's really not. My dad still owes the timeshare company money, so I wasn't going to book the flight until I knew I could get the timeshare. I did all of the research for him and gave him everything in February and asked him to please take care of it. At the time, I checked on the flights and we were able to use the miles. My dad hasn't taken care of anything though I remind him twice a week. I finally got my mom involved and he is supposed to take care of this week. I called Delta earlier today to check again on the flights, and I'm no longer able to use the miles. They had already met the limit for that flight and the flights would be $1132 per person. I refuse to pay that money, because this was far from my dream honeymoon in the first place. I'm not the one who screwed up here. I'm sitting at work hysterical and I don't know what to do!

You have six months until your wedding its a honeymoon, a trip, a vacation..... book someplace where you would really like to go...you can book a vacation (airfare & hotel) on any of the major carriers websites...they all have payment plans so if your short of money or its an issue you still have time to pay it off and you can earn your own miles (both of you)....relax maybe this is a good thing now you can go where you want

I'm SO sorry!!!

I know how you feel - last week I found out that our HM plans got screwed up too.

I don't know what to tell you except maybe start looking around for inexpensive flights or rooms on the web and consider changing the location. Good luck -- I'm sure everything will work out!

Im not sure what kind of timeshares your dad owns, but Im also using my parents timeshare for my HM. For an nominal charge you can change your destination to where ever you'd like, as long as it belongs to the timeshare group. I would check out their website and see if it is available. My parents have theirs in PR - but I always switch it to a different destination and it costs about $150. Not that this is the whole solution to your problem, but it might be an alternative if your not happy going to Mexico.

Now my mom is getting involved, which I didn't want, but I know I need her help in dealing with my dad. My dad tries to do too much and then gets nothing done because he's too overwhelmed. She's going into his office tomorrow to at least deal with the timeshare end of it. We have miles with other places, so now I'm going ot have to do some research. The problem is, with Delta there was one layover, with American Airlines we have 2 connections, so 3 legs of the flight. I guess if that's what I have to do, tahn I'm going to be forced to do that, that's taking into account that I may not be able to use the miles at all if they've met their flight quota. It's just not fair, I had it all planned out and now I have all of this extra work and extra stress to fix his mistake. I really ddon't need this right now.

I am so sorry you are so frustrated. You know things will work out- it is just a rough patch to get there. But think about it- you are going to be going on a honeymoon with your new hubby!!

I am also a big fan of online services for booking trips. You can get a great deal no matter where you want to go. It will all work out- it just takes some stress to get there.

Try to think of the positive...like all the money your saving, I would do 5 lay overs if I didnt have to pay for airfare, well maybe not five but you get my point, it usually works out in the end, and the result will be the same wther you approach it negatively or positively...every time something goes wrong, I try to think that, it will not change the situation to get upset, depressed etc...Good Luck!

I hope it all works out.
Parents can be frustrating at times.
Just think you will be having a free honeymoon and you can have more spending money for shopping

Well I spoke to my mom and she made me feel better. She said that my dad screwed up and if we can't figure out how to use miles than she will pay our airfare because I shouldn't have to pay for my dads mistake. I love my mom! I don't want them to have to pay, so I'm looking into other things. At least I know that one way or another I will have a honeymoon.
