And I need someone to slap some: 'NOT YOUR PROBLEM' into me...
So last night i called the hotel where we have rooms blocked to make a reservation for a friend of mine from Texas... I had a feeling she didn't reserve a room yet and still wasnt sure if she'd make it. (Today was supposedly the cut off for guests to get the special room rate) So i figrued I'll reserve the room for her and just give it to someone who needs one last minute.
I also asked them to fax me a list of who's reserved rooms.
I get into my office today and look at said list and notice a TON of people (from NJ) who we know are coming, havent booked rooms. So I call again to try to reserve a few just so they can get the room rate.
I'm being told the cut off date was YESTERDAY. Not today. So I put a call into my sales person to see if we can work something out.
To top it off... Our BEST MAN hasnt even reserved a room and the bridal party is supposed to be in town for Thursday night. He is from NJ as well...
THIS SHOULDNT BE MY PROBLEM. The insert in the ivitation clearly states to book 30 days prior to the event. But still, I'm FREAKING OUT.
WHY?????????????????????

Your right, its not your problem. But what if you made some reservations under your name, at the standard rate and if anyone calls give them the option of taking one of those rooms? They will have to pay a higher rate, but thats what happens when they wait until the last minute! LOL At least they will have a room??

I'm the same way.....and you're right -- IT'S NOT YOUR PROBLEM!!
They're all adults and should have made the reservations themselves! It's their fault!
How's that? Any better?

Im waiting to hear back from my sales person. I'm going to make 2 more reservations if I can.. People are just going to have to deal with whatever happens.

Ok, this is the point where you need to let go. You did all you could to get those people the dicounted rate including even trying to book the room for them. Move on, they will just have to pay the full price and maybe they'll learn to be more responsible for the next wedding they're in.
This exact same thing happened to me, all of DH's friends, including the best man and all of the groomsmen, forgot and they had to either pay regular price or just head home. They're fault, so whatever.

Re: im freaking out
You should just call them up (you and FH) let them know the deal and tell them to get their butts on the internet and phone and start making their own arrangements. You tried. It's not your fault. The most you can do now is just reach out to give them heads up

You are the BRIDE...not their TRAVEL AGENT...if they cannot follow simple instructions...let them pay full price...you did all you can...the rest was up to them!!!

Re: im freaking out
I feel your pain. The hotel where we blocked rooms has been somewhat of a nightmare, so I call every 2 weeks to check who has booked rooms. I send reminder emails to my friends, have my mom and FH's mom calling relatives because we have so many OOT guests that the hotel won't give us any more rooms, so we want the people closest to us to book ASAP so they definitely get a room. My family and friends are baffled as to why I'm so involved in the hotel rooms because it's not my problem, but I am, and I can't help it!
So I'll just tell you what I've been told (yet don't follow!) ... they're adults, they can take care of themselves, it's not your problem!

Re: im freaking out
Definitely not your problem. You created the room block, provided them with the necessary info, if they haven't done it yet, they'll have to figure it out. I waited too long for my friend's wedding and it was all booked so I booked in another nearby hotel. It was a little pricey, but hey, it was my fault. If you feel like you have to do something, then suggest a few nearby hotels...but that should be the extent of your involvement.

Re: im freaking out
NOT YOUR PROBLEM is right!!!!!!! I had guests trying to book rooms a week before the wedding. Don't freak out and take on more than you need to, its their responsibility at this point. I had ppl asking me to call and talk to the hotels and fix it for them and of course I did everything I could and it worked out in most cases, but alot of ppl around me were upset that ppl were waiting last minute and then putting that on my plate while I was super busy and that they should have dealt with it themselves. in some cases, there wasnt anything I could do to help and they just had to pay regular rates.

Re: im freaking out
Thanks guys... My sales rep finally got back to me and she extended it until today.
I reserved our best mans room for him and reserve 3 extra rooms for Friday for people who may not get to it today.
That's the best I can do...
[sigh of relief]
FH & I are going to call those people we think are supposed to be staying at the hotel this afternoon...
I have the 3 extra rooms under my name for those last minute peeps. I'll release the rooms 2 days before the wedding if i have to.
thanks for calming me down!!! I knew I could count on you guys!!!

Re: im freaking out- UPDATE on bottom of page
we are dealing with the same thing. it is such a pain getting everyone to do things
I am trying to figure out if we are going to need to add rooms but so many people that are OOT have not yet booked so we dont want to overbook because we are financially responsible.
Yes, it is NOT your problem. Sending out an email is a nice jesture but these people should read the invites and book their rooms

Re: im freaking out- UPDATE on bottom of page
yeah it is definitely not your problem! Maybe those people have family in town they are staying with instead?? I wouldn't block all those rooms in your name... just make sure you cancel them in time if they aren't needed or you'll be charged for all those unused rooms... some people just aren't that bright! lol.... we had a lot of people ask 'what hotel?'.... it was also clearly in our invite as well.
