Since we are getting married near the holidays, we are thinking that if we wait too close to our wedding date, we may have a hard time finding something. What do you guys think?

I think looking two months before the wedding gives plenty of time - there are so many apartments available right now - where are you looking to live?
I would start looking now, just in terms of looking at neighborhoods and thinking about what kind of apartment you want..and then start looking 3-4 months before. Why? The holidays and wedding planning are going to be totally hectic and it may take awhile to find a place you love. Can one of you move into the apartment if you find one? We found an apartment we like and FH is moving into it for 2 years actually before the wedding b/c he wanted to get his own place anyway. But I mean, a matter of 1-3 months (if you find a place early in your search_ might be helpful b/c u can start to decorate and figure everything out, not that you're rushed to start moving in and everything. You can start moving things before the wedding so when you come bakc form HM, most things are settled!
FH and I are getting married June 27th. We signed a May 15th lease for an apartment a few weeks ago. We started looking casually in January, more really to narrow down the neighborhoods and see what things go for. However, we were looking in Queens, and most places aren't showing apartments for rent until a month or two before the lease begins. We figured a May 15th lease gives us time to get stuff moved in and set up, so that we have some kind of order when we get back from our HM.

Well you could start thinking/searching/newspapers at different prices and neighborhoods now and maybe go to some open houses to visually see what you get for what price etc. Since you both have the luxury of still living at home with family, there isn't a rush or time restriction to move out. Which is a major plus. are you both looking to buy or rent, that is a major factor. Buying I would look around get an idea of location and prices, but then not seriously look until after the wedding, if you end up seeing something you both love before the wedding you will have to act on it right away, there is the stress of moving stuff, closing contract and all of that which you don't want to have in addition to the last month wedding details. Renting, is totally different, it may take you one month or longer to find something that you Both are happy with, I would wait until after the wedding to worry about moving, you can look here and there for a location and to pin point the specific needs in a home, but you just never know, when you get lucky and see a great place, you have to grab it up and it doesn't always work out with timing.
