This wedding is going to make me poor. I cant seem to make the most economical decisions. I went to Duet this weekend and the price they gave me for photo/video was really reasonable. But my heart is totally with another vendor...that is about $1200 more. Duet does good work...but for some reason I cant get this other vendor out of my head. Is anyone else having similar experiences? I know what I should do...but I have this mentality that 'it's my ONE day' and why compromise. But it is just one day...that shouldnt cost what I make in one year. LOL

What if you pick a few things that are REALLY important to you, and splurge on those to get what you really want, and then cut back in other areas.
Ex: I personally think the things that last beyond your wedding day are especially important (photo, video, rings, hair, makeup for pictures).
You might not care about flowers, and cut back there. Same with invitations.
Maybe a DJ instead of a band... etc
which photog do you love?

Photography is so important...because that's what you're going to have to look back on :) why not try to negotiate & see if the photographer u love will budge?? explain how u feel...speak with them directly(no secretary lol)..tell him that u love his work, but that duet it giving you a better price..and that if they can cut their price at ALL, that you would jump on them in a heartbeat?? Even if they say no at first, say 'Ok then it looks like i'm going to have to book with Duet. I'm so dissappointed but it just seems like the better decision right now' and hang up. See if they let you get off the phone..if they do give them a day & see if they call u back. u may be suprised with their reaction. if they don't, then u can say u tried & can make a decision from their, and if they do, u can be proud of urself and feel better about ur decision good luck!
ps: i will say that Duet does beautiful work..so don't be so down!

I agree with this advice and this is what we did. We wanted to splurge on cocktail hour, dessert and photographer. To accommodate these things, I made my own programs, placecards, and rehearsel dinner menus. I didn't spend extra money on small upgrades such as tableclothes and chairs, since I never notice those things at other people's weddings.
I think photographer and the dress are worth splurging on.

Imagine Studios is the photographer I love. Duet is great...but there is something holding me back.
I see what you mean about prioritizing. RH was most important...so I went well over what I wanted to spend. Music was next...went way over on that too. Photography is next in line.

I used Imagine and Duet would have been my second choice... i dont think you can go wrong with either

Why not call Imagine and tellthem you really love them and would like to book BUT you have someone else who will do it for less would they be willing to sit down and work out a bettter price??
While you may not get the full $1200 you may be able to cut some of the cost down? worth a try exp with the economy I think the vendors may be hurting a little

I think you need to balance the fact that it's one day and you want the best with 'I want the best for my money!'
Also don't forget to ask them for a better price. Just like mentioned previously. Maybe they can't come down $1200 but they can come down $600. You should do this with everyone from flowers to DJ / band to the dress!!

I sometimes get this way too and this is what I do - I look at my budget and see if I can cut that same amount somewhere else to keep the budget balanced. If I can't cut anything, then I think about the year after my wedding and ask myself if I will be more satisfied having a house and a baby with the money I've saved on my wedding or would I rather sit in my small apartment with my photo album and relive my day?

spend the money where things are most important to you... Your pictures and video will last forever - thats what you have left (at least thats my opinion)
I spent a little more on it b/c I felt it was worth it. I got my proofs and Im sooooo glad I did. I was nervous I spent to much but once I got my proofs I was so happy and it was worth every penny.
I didnt go crazy on flowers, invites stuff like that. I DIY'd alot.

IMO if you really love this photographer, then book with them. I feel photography is very important and i myself have splurged a little extra on this. You can always look to cut back in other areas. For instance, i am cutting back on flowers (going w/ low cp's) and invites (ordering pretty plain ones).

I really wanted the photographer I ended up booking. I knew they were going to be more than other places. I got them to give me a discount, eventhough it was still a little bit more than I wanted to spend. I decided it was worth spending the little extra on the pictures and i will save in some other areas -like flowers or favors

You have to go with what you want. Just make sure that the only thing holding you back from DUET is not the language barrier. I too had the same concerns, but after I met with them for a second time I felt so relieved and completely comfortable with their work. Best of luck!

When I started looking at photographers I had no idea how much it would cost. That being said we found one that we loved and was more than i expected to spend. But FH actually convinced me that the pics and video are one of the most important things to splurge on. Now I'm so happy with our decision!

I know what you mean. I was going to do my own invites and spend about $500 - $600. But a friend of mine brought her sisters in to work today and I fell in love. Not they are going to cost me about $1550 with stamps. FH does not seem to care though. But we have saved in other areas. Just shop around and see who gives you a good prices for things. If you are wowed by one vendor then go with them and cut on something else...
Good Luck...

I agree... spend more on things that will last forever like photography. I can't imagine spending a lot of money on invitations when people are just going to throw them out and pretty much only focus on the date and time of your wedding.

THIS WEBSITE IS GOING TO MAKE ME POOR!!! LOLLL Before, I found LIW, I didnt really think about everyyyy single detail. Now that I have been on this website, I've gone with an expensive Photographer, good flowers, and am like 2 seconds away from hiring a DOC. My FH hates that I go on this website because he says it's making us poor LOL!! He is now telling me that a DOC is a waste of money... I dont know what to dooooo
I think that you should spend more on photography because its going to last forever... everytime I think about how much my photographer is going to cost us... I think of crying- but I know I'll always have those pics and memories.

Re: I'm going to be poor! : )
We originally wanted to book with franklin square photo...but we just couldnt afford it. I spoke with all my married friends and they all said for the most part they never ever look at their wedding video and wedding album after I heard that we decided to go with our second choice which was Duet.
my comment here is that if you really want it fine...but only if you have the money for it. If its putting you in debt..then thats a no go...at least thats what me and FH say. This wedding is all on us too...its a lot of money on top of a new apartment and all that that entales.... In these crappy economical times...the last way I want my marriage to start is in debt because I went way over budget in my wedding planning.
