I'm going to cry...

I'm going to cry...

I've had like the WORST day so far and I just want to go home and crawl into bed but I can't because we can't live in our apartment because there is a guy making crystal meth in the apartment next to ours. So we moved out temporarily, I'm living with my parents, I never get to see my fiance, and the bullsh*t that I have had to do with regarding friends and work today I just spent my entire lunch period crying! I just hope this isn't how the day is giong to end. We're meeting with our co-op chairperson today to find out what apartment we're getting moved to and all that jazz and i NEED that to go well!

Can someone tell me something good and maybe I can try to forget that half this day happened already?

wow i'm sorry you're going through that. why did YOU have to move out tho? please correct me if i'm wrong but crystal meth is illegal, no?? why didn't the management company call the police and get the person arrested and evict them? that seems crazy to me that you would have to move out of your apartment because they are doing something illegal!!!!

Seriously! I would've just called the cops. That's insane and extremely dangerous- they're using all highly combustible materials.

Well we had to move out because of two reasons. The police are investigating the situation and they can't kick people out of the co-op without hard proof and evidence. So they are working on the case. While they are working on it we didn't think it would be safe to live in a place that would 1. possibly blow up and 2. have drug dealers going in and out of the apartment RIGHT NEXT to our door. We also wanted to move to another apartment so these guys don't know where we live anymore. We don't feel safe living there and we don't want to be the ones that you see on the 6 o'clock news because we didn't want to leave our apartment alone.

Re: I'm going to cry...

Sorry, maybe I should explain this more. A neighbor of ours called us to tell us that they smelt crystal meth cooking in the apartment next to ours. When I got the news, I called my co-op board right away, because we are trying to keep our names off the paperwork. The undercovers are stalking out the place now and they need to catch any kind of misbehavior before they can make any kind of arrest. My FBIL is NYPD and he informed us that to get a warrant in NYS is almost impossible. The police can't just knock on someones door without having any evidence or warrant to arrest that person. Right now, FH and I are talking to the Community Controller for Flushing and she's been helping us out. And like I said, I would rather get out of that apartment and move anyway being that these people know our faces and what not. The co-op is moving us to another building with better apartments so it's a plus but still inconvinent to say the least.

I agree with everyone that this seems so ridiculous. The least your board could have done is let you and FH stay in an apt. until they got everything under control but having to leave the entire building is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure that it doesn't take that long to find out that someone is making crystal meth. I would take it a little harder to the coop board and get something done becuase honestly, seems like you're the only one being inconvenienced here...

...on another note, don't worry, we all have bad days, just remember, they don't last forever...Good luck to you.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm hoping today they will tell us when we can move into our new place. The co-op board is giving us a new apartment to live in but we have to get a move in date. As for have a vacant that we can live in right now, not possible. My dad keeps reminding me 'all are innocent until proven guilty'. The union I am in owns the co-ops and there are some legistics that are hard to explain BUT there are waiting lists that can be up to 2 years before people get apartments in this co-op. The rent was designed to be REALLY cheap for union members so they can save so lots of people are trying to get in. This all only started unfolding a week ago so they are doing things fairly quick in my eyes. Narcotics is dealing with the deal issue and will hopefully handle it by the end of the week (which is what they promised us).

And thanks everyone for your concern. I guess it's all a little complicated since the way the co-op really is that you don't own the co-op you just buy into the shares.

Next time (god forbid there's a next time) call the Fire Dept.- they don't need a warrant to knock the door down. And technically you are not lying if you say you smell smoke. And that'll be all the evidence they need! Hope the rest of your week is better.
