I'm going to pay for this later...

I'm going to pay for this later...

I am having pizza for dinner. Why is this a problem?? Because I have KILLER acid reflux at night if I even look at red sauce, and then I don't sleep a wink and am in TERRIBLE pain. Unfortunately the pizza craving was SO intense that I threw caution to the wind and just ordered a pie. I'm going to be soooooooooooooo sorry!!!!!

Jenn - they say a lot of heartburn means a baby with a lot of hair!

Jenny, that's my rationale!

Heather, I heard that too! If I have a girl (which I suspect I'm won't), I'd love for her to be born with enough hair for pigtails!!!
BUT I don't have heart burn... only reflux.

I fell of my wagon today too and had a bowl of cereal MID day...so I am sure my blood sugar levels are sky high but I have sooo good and just needed some cereal. So I understand wanting something and just not caring about the after effects later on.
Can you take a Tums to help you?

Yes, I think you definitely have a pretty good idea of what I was feeling.
I just ate a slice of pizza... it was HEAVEN!

I can take Tums, and I do, but it only takes the edge off and doesn't completely eliminate the reflux.

Try some Applesauce - I found that when I had really bad reflux following some surgery it was the one thing that helped cool the burning really fast.

Suzanne, I don't know about Pepcid. My dr. specifically said Tums. I'll ask him about Pepcid though. Does it work really well?

Karen, thanks for the tip. I will MOST DEFINITELY try it.

I really feel for you! I had horrid heartburn when I was preggo and my OB said I could take Pepcid Complete. It was a lifesaver!! Ask your OB. One tablet vs. eating a handful of Tums (with no relief from the Tums)

BTW, Luke was born with a ton of hair.

OMG, I remember that killer heartburn!!! I ate lots of tums. That pizza sounds good, though!

I have been a GI Reflux Sufferer since I was 14. Something about a lazy cardiac sphincter. Not wanting to spend my lifetime on meds, I've tried to control it with diet and stress reduction....but sometimes life gets the better of me and I can taste it in my mouth. BLECH!

Pepcid AC works wonders - really fabulous. One capsule lasts me 10-12 hours. You can even take it before eating the pizza.

Good luck!

Tums were my BEST friend when I was pregnant!

Jenn I have acid reflux & I am on prevacid. When I get prego I am going to have a hard time because I don't think I can continue it

Jen - I totally feel for you. I am suffering pretty badly myself. I take Zantac right before I eat something dangerous and my Ob said it was perfectly fine to take any of the meds in that class - like Pepcid, Zantac, Tagemet. In the little drug book I carry around for work, all of those drugs are 'generally regarded as safe in pregnancy.' You can get a prescription (for the really strong ones like I did ) or buy over the counter. Taking one every once in awhile should be perfectly fine.
