I'm gonna break the TOS and cross post here. Parenting question

Alright I posted this in the parenting forum, but I'm not getting any responses.

FH and I had a great weekend with my future step/bonus daughter. I noticed that she was wearing one of those plastic bracelets that are used in that school yard sex game. Now she's 4 so I know she does not know what the game, bracelets mean. But it floors me that her mother is allowing her to wear them.

I realize that other than voicing my opinion to FH about it, I cannt say anything about this (and this is not the point of this thread). What I would like to know, is would you let your children wear such things at the tender age of 4 knowing what they meant??

You can't assume that the mother knows what it means, I didn't until I read the post on here (and I teach middle school!) If I knew what it meant, then I would not allow it. Maybe DH can ask her mother if she knows what the bracelet represents?

I had thought of that... I don't try to portray her mother as an idiot. I asked FH if both he and her mother knew what the bracelets meant... they both do. FH thinks I'm over-reacting.

I just want to know if any of you would feel the same way I do.

Print out a copy of a news article on what they mean and mail it to her annonymously!! I wouldn't be too worried though. She is only 4 and to her it is a cool piece of jewelry. I remember wearing those bracelets when I was younger and there was no significance to them when I was young. It is some stupid trend that has just started recently. I wouldn't worry too much about ti. Your stepdaughter does not know what those bracelets represent to older kids and by the time she gets older she will outgrow them anyway. If you find her wearing them in about 10 years, then I would be worried!!

a parent of a 4 yr old sees it as a bracelet. An older perosn may have given it to her, she may have thrown a tantrum for it in a store...who knows. For a 4 year old, it's just a bracelet. If you are on good terms with her mother...bring it to her attention that jr and HS students are using them for that.
