Okay so all my important songs (wedding song and father daughter song, mother son song) make me wanna cry and I dont wanna be hysterical at my wedding so Im such a loser Im going to listen to them alot so I build a tolerance. Think it will work I suck im dancing to 'wind beneath my wings' with my dad and its a dedication to him and my mother I cant get through 10 seconds of the song without crying lol

I'm with you. I need to start desensitizing myself too. My dad is a huge mush, and he's going to make me cry all day long. It's what I've been dreading about my wedding all along.

I am right there with you ladies - my dad made a CD for himself with all the possible songs - we are doing two songs - one slow and one upbeat for our ballroom routine - all the songs make him emotional

My dad is a big mush too! I know we'll both be bawling when he walks me down the aisle and when we dance.
It's so funny how some big tough guys become the biggest suckers for their little girls.

Re: Im gonna cry
good luck trying to build a tolerance.... Everytime FH even plays the first two notes of our wedding song i start crying.... since we have been engaged we only listened to the song twice and i refuse to listen to it b/c i break down! LoL
Do not even get me started at my father daughter dance.... i cry just thinking about it w/o the song even playing!!!
Father of the Bride was on last night and i was flipping through the channels and it was up to the part where he knocks on the door and she says she is ready and he opens the door and sees her for the first time... i was a wreck... i had to change the channel!

Re: Im gonna cry
I had the same issue leading up to the wedding. I thought I would be a mess during both songs. But on the day of, i only teared up a little during our first dance and my dad and I ended up talking throughout our whole dance, so I wasn't focused on the words of the song. If I was listening to those, I know I would have lost it.

Ladies, I speak from experience when I say if you listen to the song every day it works. My Dad passed away in April and I knew that at our wedding it was going to be rough but I didn't want to ignore the father/daughter moment. So DH and I danced to 'I Loved Her First' in memory of my Dad. Well, there wasn't a dry eye in the house but I strangely enough was okay. See, I listened to the song every day and by the wedding day, I just got so happy when I heard the song, not upset at all. Just very secure knowing Dad was there.

i know! i just imagine getting proofs back with a hundred shots of my face all flushed and contorted by sobbing. the bridal march song i'm using is the WORST one, and the desensitization trick has not had any impact so far

I was just thinking the same thing as I read through all these posts. My dad died a few years ago and I've been having a rough time thinking about all these moments.... Should I skip the dance? Should I dance it with someone else in memory? etc... But I agree that if you listen to the song enough, you sort of desensitize yourself. At least I hope it works.
