FH is yelling at me as we speak. (Or as I type...whatever). I just told him I'm not sure whether or not to change my name. He cant fathom the fact that I am having a hard time with it. He's not the one whose name is changing!

Re: I'm having an identity crisis
I really like my name... but I'm 99.6% sure I am taking FH's last name... he feels very strongly about it and I like the idea of having the same last name.
I'm torn between making my maiden name my middle name or keeping my middle name. The maiden --> middle thing is very common in the legal profession and I'm having a hard time deciding.
I need to make up my mind soon so I can try to get used to the idea of my 'new' name ... because right now it's just foreign to me

Re: I'm having an identity crisis
I don't think it's an easy decision. I have oodles of respect for women who keep their maiden name...
I, on the other hand, cna't wait to get rid of mine.

Re: I'm having an identity crisis
Im dealing with this too. I might go as Lindsay my last name his last name.
You also dont have to do a name change right away. You have a lot of time to decide. My best friend waited 7 mons bc she wasnt ready.

Re: I'm having an identity crisis
I want to keep my maiden name but FH is making a big deal about how I HAVE to take his name. I even suggested hyphenating it and he said absolutely not. My name just sounds better and nicer than it will when I take FH name.
I hope you guys can resolve this little issue

My last name is such a huge part of my identity and it is a huge decision. I know I have to make it sooner or later.

Re: I'm having an identity crisis
I on the other hand cant wait to get rid of my name, I have the last name of a man 'my so called father' who has never been in my life and most likely never will be, why should I carry his name... plus my first name with my new last name sounds so much better....cant wait!

Re: I'm having an identity crisis
That is a sticky point for us. FH wants me to change to his name. He says that if I wasn't planning on going anywhere, then I should have no issues with it. It is a lot harder to get your name back if you change it completely. Keeping my name hyphenated in the first marriage, I just had to let the judge know I was going back to my maiden name. You have to get the judge to order the name change if you changed it. The other issue is when it comes to children. I went back to the maiden name and my children hate that we don't have the same name. I hate my ex and could not wait to get rid of it but it has hurt my kids. I refer to my old married name when I deal with their school. I don't know what I am going to do.

Re: I'm having an identity crisis
I like the fact that I get to change, I do feel bad as my last name will end w/ me and my sister as my dad only had girls and his brother doesn't have any children
However I still welcome the change, maybe I'm old-fashioned like that
