I'm in denial about the amount I've been cooking lately - followed by a question

I'm in denial about the amount I've been cooking lately - followed by a question

I have to cook because it's the only way that I can eat bread, soups, mashed potatoes, etc.

And DH actually likes vegan mashed potatoes, the gluten free bread and all of that stuff. But I get really weirded out when he tells people about it.

We had dinner with both sets of parents and when he said, '[insert my name here] has been cooking a lot lately. The other night she made tomato soup from scratch -' My look of 'I'll cut you' made him shut up.

On the way home he said, 'What was that look about?'

'I don't want people knowing that I cook.'

'Why? You're getting good at it.'

I gave him another look, 'Then they'll EXPECT me to cook for them one day. I can't handle that pressure.'

Am I wrong here? I don't like it when people have high expectations of me. I'd rather keep them low and surprise them all.

Its good logic. you know what they say, 'Expect the Worst, but Hope for the Best.'

PS - my problem is a bit different: I'm in denial about the amount I've been eating lately.

you sound like me.

I get like that about everything. I don't like when people are 'overly' enthusiastic about everything about me. to me, it gives people more fodder to strike me down with.

ex. you have to meet my friend ___________ she is so funny or so pretty.

you have to try ________________ homemade sauce. she cooks so good.

to these examples, there are people out there WAITING and PRAYING for the opportunity to say...um, no she's not or no she doesn't.

I'd rather people think I am a toothless boring hag that can't boil water.

I totally don't want the ILs to know because then they'll bring it up at Thanksgiving and for some reason, that will irk the hell out of me.

I feel ya on that. eventually if he talks about it, someone will say, 'we should come by to try that delicious sauce!' and then it's a pressure cooker. i love cooking for myself and FH, but hate cooking for others.

word got out about my stuffing for turkey day, and now my friends have told all THEIR friends about my stuffing and they have begged for me to make it and bring to their house thurs. i'm already freaking out

I brag about every accomplishment I make ever, so I am the wrong person to ask.
I make sur ethat people know that I can cook, and that I changed the garbage bag, and that I vaccuumed today, etc.
What would be best, is- have DH talk up your serious kitchen skills, then have people over, and simpy heat up frozen appetizers, maybe cut up some cheese. Make sure they see you doing his, and also be sure to wear an apron and a paper chef hat.
Also run around in a frenzy.
Then look pooped, and complain about having slavesd in the kitchen all day. Then tell them that you made the pizza bites from scratch. Be sure to leave the empty boxes in plain sight.

I am with you, I am in major agreement with your feelings on the subject.

I've gone back and deleted any post of mine with a picture because I'm all weirded out about who might see - for absolutely no reason.
Plus all of the important people here know my name anyway.
Also, I'm embarrassed that DH calls me Snoz sometimes.

I kinda know what you mean. I do like to show off my accomplishments but when it comes to the kitchen I'd prefer not to cook. There is a lot of pressure when someone expects it to be good, I'm so afraid that I'm going to mess it up then or something. But if they think that my cooking $ucks then they can be pleasantly surprised!!

Actually I just have DH cook, that solves everything!!

Agree 100%. The other day DH told me that his sister, her bf and his dad were coming over for dinner. I was cooking, but I started to panic at this thought. I don't mind cooking for DH, but I don't want to cook for anyone else......ever.

Oh and he was totally kidding. He is such a pain in the arse sometimes

I don't enter the kitchen much to create anything so when I do, I brag. Only about baking though, I never want anyone to expect me to cook anything. Especially DH.

He's the cook. And he's full of himself, so he just assumes everyone will like it because he does.
