I'm so ecstatic that I'm pregnant (13.3 weeks today!), but I feel like my family is totally abandoning me now when I need them the most You would think everyone would be so tremendously excited because this will be the first baby in my family in 30 years and, yet, my mom is now seriously considering a job in Washington State, and they are on the brink of making her an offer, and my dad is moving to Florida in a few months. Granted, I can understand my dad, because he is trying to get on an organ donor transplant list, and Florida may be the only place he can get on that has a reasonable wait time. But, my mom? She keeps telling me she feels torn because she wants to be a part of her grandchild's life, but yet, she's still going to take the job if they offer it. It's a six hour flight, and then a three hour drive on top of it, and as much as she says she'll visit all the time, I know my mom, she'll get so caught up at work, that I'll see her maybe once in a blue moon. To boot, I have two brothers, one who lives in Virginia, who I see once every five years, and the other, lives in Philadelphia with me, but is all weirded out that I'm pregnant that he has virtually stopped talking to me since he found out. I LOVE Dh's family, but they live in Israel! I'm starting to feel all alone in this....

Re: I'm kind of sad...
I'm so sorry! I know how you feel too.
My mom moved to florida the DAY after I got engaged two years ago. Most of my family and cousins that I am extremely close to followed suit soon thereafter. My brother goes to school in Savannah and I see him 2 -3 times per year at best since he left. DH's parents moved to North Carolina a month before we got engaged... so we lost almost everyone to other states before our wedding. Both his sisters (who I love) live there too.
Now we are expecting and I feel like we have no one around to help us or more importantly, to raise our child around with the same sense of family that we both had growing up.
Sometimes it's nice not having too many family obligations but yes, sometimes we wish they were around more often. It's definitely sad and a little lonely but I think that we'll be okay. And I think you will too!

This is a very difficult situation. I am sorry that you are not getting the family support you had hoped. I can see your mom being torn but at the same time you are married now so she may feel that it is time for her dreams to come true. Even if that is sad for others. maybe speak to her about coming to NY after the baby is born and work out a schedule of visits for the first year. That might help both of you feel better about this. I am really sorry your dad is so sick. I am sure his leaving is hard since he has to do it for health reasons. There is no good advise in my words but I do hope that you see some happy times ahead.

I am so sorry you are feeling this way. My bf was in a similar situation she has no family in NY and her husband's family is not very supportive. She has coped by building a strong network of great friends. She has friends over for the holidays and we are around for all the important events in her life.
I hope all works out for you and you are feeling better soon. You and your DH are in such a great place right now, you are starting your own family and now matter what it is going to be a wonderful experience.

Awww, Sweetie...I don't think they're abandoning you purposefully...it's just there's alot of changes going on in their lives at the same as this big change in yours. I know how it feels to have brothers that are there...but not really. It's very hard when you just want everyone to be as excited for you. Have you told your mom how you feel about her leaving? Maybe explaining to her how much it means to you to have her stay and be a big part of her grandbaby's life will put things in a different perspective to her. She might be going through alot of different emotions w/ retiring and beginning that part of her life and maybe just needs a little kick from you to make her feel the more important job is there with you and not in another state. Whatever the future brings I'm sure you and your little monkey will not lack for love.
