Im looking for an Atkins book

Does anyone have this book laying around that they do not want anymore?
Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution 2001 or 2002

I am willing to pay for it. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Scott

I'd offer mine, but I still reference it.. and will reference it more when its time to move on to premaintenance.

If you don't find one here, I'm sure you could probably find one on ebay!

I got mine at CVS (weird place, I know). I was waiting for my blood pressure medication to be filled, just walking around the store. I had six 'cvs extracare card' bucks, and the Atkins book was on sale for 5.99.

Fate? I dunno. But 77 pounds later I don't wait at CVS for blood pressure medication.

How is it going Scott... carb cravings should start dwindling now!

Re: Im looking for an Atkins book

I havent craved carbs in over a month....other than the fruit and stuff that I was eating for the past month. Its funny, I dont crave bread, pasta, or rice. I know the effects that it does to my body, and my moods. Those items make me grumpy, and exhausted. I havent felt like that all week, thanks to Induction.

Everybody always says that Atkins is not a healthy way of eating, do you agree with that?

That is so cool that you dont need your high blood pressure medicine anymore.

I just want to say that I've found that in most cases when someone says that to me its b/c they think that you eat tons of meat and no veggies, or NO carbs, not low carb. A lot of people don't realize what this way of eating is really about.

I think they are more concerned with what kind of protien you are eating, and all the high fat foods you are eating. That is why they say it is unhealthy.

That is true. I've been asked a zillioin times how I eat so much bacon...lol. (I don't)

ETA- BTW, I've been doing Atkins on and off since July and my cholesterol went from 206 to 182

Re: Im looking for an Atkins book

Umm... my jury is still out on it.

While I agree (and know) that this is a great weight loss method, and the theory behind it all makes sense (when you read the book you'll get a good background) I know that I won't be low carbing for the rest of my life.
It's unrealistic for me to think that I'll never again have a flour based carboydrates (pasta, bread, etc). I think it will be just a matter of balance for me personally after I am at my goal weight.

As someone else discussed in their post above; I think the whole negativity towards low carb again comes from people that don't understand. The idea of changing what foods you eat in order to change the body's metabolism and fat processing makes total sense. If you burn carbs before fat, and you have a lot of fat... don't eat many carbs; that way fat will go quicker!

People hear that you can eat at much meat as you want and they think we sit at home at night frying up packages of bacon for a snack. They don't realize that people on Atkins probably eat more vegetables then people who are eating 'normally.' I can't tell you how many times I've been having a salad for lunch, sitting at my desk and coworkers asking if I was going off of Atkins by eating a salad. If you read the book and understand, you learn that veggies are a very important part of the diet and are mandatory.

OTOH, Carbohydrates are brain food. Thats why you need to eat them. It's the idea of good carbs vs bad carbs. I'll get my carbs from veggies, thanks; keep your snicker bar to yourself.

The sudden surge of lowcarb foods and press has caused us to be under a microscope. Why so sudden? who knows. The death of Dr Atkins and the vegetarian organizations pointing the finger hasn't helped, thats for sure. People have been lowcarbing since the 70s I believe. So, it can't be that bad for you, as long as you believe in moderation!

As for me; I'm hoping for another 75 pounds; so I'll probably be on it for another year or so. (with the wedding and honeymoon I'll probably end up blowing it for a couple of months). I don't need my blood pressure medication anymore; I don't have asthma anymore (I used to need to use an inhaler 2 to 3 times per day) and my cholesterol, triglicerides (sp) etc are all normal. Sure, I eat lots of meat, bacon, cheese, and high fat foods. But guess what... my cholesterol and triglicerides went DOWN. Everyone is different; WW is the diet for somepeople, and more power to them. (I did it for a long while, but just got too bored with it) For me personally, before atkins = high cholesterol/triglicerides, high blood pressure and asthma. Atkins = normal blood work, normal blood pressure, and no more inhaler.

Whew. I'll get off my soapbox now.

I agree with that. But, I think I will always be aware of what I eat now.
