I once saw a man have a fit in an A & P over the lack of cumin. Apparently it is essential to chili. If you didn't ad it, try it next time --apparently it will transform your chili.

BTW, I am the only personthat DIDN'T register fot a slow cooker? I have visions of electrical fires. . .

He was probably just looking for an excuse to saw cumin!

I covet slow cookers and I registered for one, but as I was adding it I thought to myself... someday, this appliance may kill me or burn my house down. Until then I'll be up to my eyeballs in chili, soups and other slow-cooked delights!

Please don't tell me that!! After I extolled the praises of slow cookers in general for about 3 or 4 months, with Seb complaining that he could do the same thing in his stupid ugly orange Le Creuset casserole thingy by leaving the oven on very low heat all day, I've been having visions of my poor little flat in flames! Luckily, there's been so much damp and water damage lately that i don't think anything COULD catch fire... Probably not healthy either way. BTW, I didn't register for the slow cooker, but I mentioned it and my mom has figured out how to order things through the John Lewis website (think Macy's) so that it arrives on my doorstep in time for Christmas

And, sadly, no I didn't add any cumin - I just chopped up onion, tomato and chili pepper (after which I promptly stuck my finger in my eye! ), salt & pepper, chili powder, tomato sauce, some water, beans and chopped meat. It's a slight variation on what I usually do (I think I usually add some garlic salt or something) but I was in a to get to a meeting that I was late for anyway.
