So for about a year, I've really started to dislike where I work. I held on for this long because it was a good paycheck and it would help in all the wedding process. I just feel trapped; low man on the todem pole so to speak, and I just don't like coming in here anymore.
Well, an offer for an interview fell into my lap yesterday, better location, larger company, same pay but no benefits. The benefits part is fine because I will be on FH's on November 22nd anyway.
The thing is, I am secretly going on the interview later. If I get this job, how on earth am I going to break this to my current job, under 2 months away from tax season? No less: 2 1/2 weeks before the wedding, that they were invited to?
I really feel they will not understand my need for growth and to get out of this environment. It's not that they are terrible people - but the work part of it has left me miserable. I don't know the company's future either and I feel if I'm offered this new position, I'd be stupid not to take it. The one partner talks retirement all the time, and the other one, well, doesn't have good work ethnics. GREAT personality, easy to BS with, but working with him is a nightmare.
I barely slept last night because all I could think about is the guilt. When I say I take care of everything here, it's no exaggeration. If all of you didn't notice, I wasn't a poster until June-ish because January - May is bread and butter here and I take there 'no gallivanting on the internet during tax season' very seriously. During off season I get my busy moments but nothing that lasts no more than a day.
I need some help or things to say when the time comes to resign.

Re: I'm really nervous. Advice.
don't worry about your current company ... you need to worry only about yourself.
they will find someone else for tax season - it's not too hard in this economy.
and about them being invited to your wedding, don't worry about it .... there is a separation between your work and social life and if they don't see it that way, then they can un-rsvp.
you don't need to be ashamed of doing what's best for you!
go kick this interview's butt!! good luck!!!
ETA: having a job that you despise is not worth it .... it makes your entire life suck a little more. think of how happy you'll be if you got this other job!!!

Thanks Mor.
I don't know why I feel like leaving here is a bad move and too everyone else, they all wanna smack me!
LOL. What can I say? I don't like change sometimes.
But I know this needs to be done, maybe this is the reason I want to leave Long Island so bad, if I can just fit in a work place better, I might change my mind and stay.

nobody likes change ... but after it's already done, you can't imagine living your life without it!
there's nothing to be afraid of .... in the very worst case, you'll hate the new job too and stay there

OMG, dont even feel bad! I had a manager quit in December! People do it all the time! Two months is fine! Do you what you have to do for yourself!
Best luck on your interview!

Yeah you need to worry about yourself... just be professional about it and tell the truth - that an opportunity came out of nowhere and you see this as a better fit for you.
They have to respect that.
I know I would if it was me.

You have to do what is right for you. Don't worry about the company, make the move that suits you best.

the way I always look at it is, a company probably wouldn't think twice about firing an employee if they had to, so you should be the same way about leaving.
it's normal to feel bad. we're human. but don't let your feelings get in your way of taking action. or you might regret it down the line.
