I'm sick of applying with no reply!

I'm sick of applying with no reply!

I have been applying to districts all over Long Island for months and I don't even get a thank you for submitting my resume! In the past 2 weeks, I have applied to about 20 jobs with nothing except a form email saying that I will hear from them IF they decide to interview me. This is so frustrating!

I recently put my new address on my resume so maybe they are going to my new house instead of my father's house. We aren't moving in until April so I'll have FH check the mailbox when he goes there tomorrow. Thanks!

I'm doing the same thing and it is so frustrating! It makes you insecure. I'm getting excessed from my job next year. I'm a tenured teacher in one of the top districts on the island and I still get hardly any response. I just keep telling myself that it is still kinda early and to keep trying.

Good luck to you.

Good luck to you too! I just closed on my house in Nesconset and teach in Staten Island. I stay at my Dad's house during the week and with FH on weekends. I really need to find something closer to our new house. The commute now during rush hour is over 2 hours each day!

You said that it's kind of early. Does that mean more opens up later in the year? I feel like the districts are looking for teachers with less years and without Masters so they can pay them at a lower scale.

Its early beacuse alot of districts still dont know about retirements, leaves or budget yet. I would say you will start to see more posts out there come April May. But it is of course possible to get a job even in late August. You just never know.

Yea I'm sure some districts look for teachers on a lower pay scale. But it all depends on the district and what kind of spot they are looking to fill.

I have masters plus 15. i chose not to take any classes this spring because I'm nervous it will make me less marketable.

My FH is a teacher, and I a Social Worker, so I know how how frustrating it is to get a district job. I still think it is early. If I were you...keep sending them, but also resend them in June. A lot of times teaching positions are not the first positions they fill (administrative being first)...so don't get discourgaged so early on!! Good luck!

Another question, many districts have postings that say to apply online only. Should I also be mailing in my resume or is that pushing it because they didn't ask for it?

Sorry for all of the questions. I currently work for the NYC Board of Ed and applying was very different when I started.

Another teacher and I applied only on OLAS, we got nothing. Oh, sorry, I got offered summer school in sayville. A friend of ours from grad school literally blanketed the island with his resume. He got 3 OFFERS!

At this point, I feel like my commute is 35-45 minutes and I can taste my masters +30. I may as well stay. But you def need to get a job!

Keep it up! I heard they start looking at the resumes in April so you're doing the right thing. Go to school districts and make yourself known!

Yes, not only because of the commute, because of the administration at my school. I am so burnt and bitter after 5 years! I need to definitely get out of there!!!

Can you check on OLAS if anyone has viewed your resume?

Holy Hannah!!! And i ***** about my 40 minute commute to manhattan! Cant you try to tranfser to a school in Queens at least? Ive been out of the NYC Board of Ed for almost 6 years now so maybe things have changed but my first year teaching i was in a JHS in south Queens and I sent my resume to a HS in Queens north and they took me. Sorry I dont know much about LI except it helps to know people...Before i left teaching i tried to get a job in LI and I applied to less desireable districts like Brentwood..they gave me an interview at least.

Yes, I can transfer to Queens. That will still be about an hour commute. I was looking for something closer because I don't want to have to travel far when I am pregnant and when my kids are young. I also wanted to be tenured in a new school by the time I have my first. I've heard it's another 2 years in a LI school, even though I am tenured in NYC and have 5 years in!

i would at least start with the transfer to queens...an hour really isnt an unreasonable commute and my god isnt it like 10 bucks to cross the verrazano now and combined with gas price youll be working just to pay for your commute!!! keep trying with LI...maybe over the summer you will get some interviews for the new school year! Good Luck and dont get discouraged!!! I am thinking of returning to teaching once I have kids.
