I'm SICK of spending like 70 bucks a week to eat healthy!

Here I am trying to take care of my body, and I go to the friggin supermarket and all of their produce is SOOOOOO expensive! I'm getting sick of it. I spend anywhere from 50 to 70 dollars a week on lettuce, tomatoes, cuccumber, peppers, fresh fruit, and I spend it because I love to eat those foods, but it's bleeding me dry. Anyone know where I can buy good cheap produce? I'm out on the east end, so once the nice weather comes, I can boycott the supermarkets and do my shopping at farm stands, but I'm just so aggravated! Ok, vent over. Thank you.

Are there any produce markets by you?

like I know in East Northport there is Pat's Meat Farms...which usually has good deals on produce

also with fruits and veggies...i vary what I buy - based on what is on sale that week...If I see cauliflower at a good price...I buy it for the week...otherwise that can be very expensive weeks that its not on sale...

that also helps to keep variety...

In the spring/summer you can try to join a food co-op. You pay a set fee, agree to work a few hrs at the co-op and get delicious home grown/farm grown veggies.

I agree with joining a coops, they are usually around in the summer and fall I think. My SIL belongs to one, and they get lots of great stuff. The only thing is that you get a certain amount of everything they have that week. So, it may be a lot for just you, or for a small family. I will try to fing out more info.

Just think of how much you spend on meat products, they are definitely more costly than vegetables.

Rach---Produce Warehouse in the Riverhead/TJ Maxx shopping center is priced decently....

ALso, Meat Farms..I think its on 112...kinda far from u on the East End...

BOy do I wish we had teh local veggies here....
