Ok, so because I worked in both MA and NY last year, MA taxes me on the moneyI made in NY (they don't call it Taxachusetts for nothing!), so I ended up owing them 167 bucks. Fine. They took that out of my account last Thursday, but then today I got an automatic refund from MA of 102 bucks. What the hell? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'll TAKE the money, I just don't know why I got it back and is it a mistake? Anyone know why I could have gotten money back?

Why does MA charge you for NY earned income? I did both of my sisters' taxes who worked in both MA and NY and I didn't have that problem???
Maybe that's the reason?

I don't know why I had to pay double income tax, but it clearly stated I had to. But maybe I made a mistake and overpaid?

Oh, and it had something to do with the amount of time I worked in MA, had worked there less time than I worked in NY, then I wouldn't have had to pay them.

When I did theirs, it portioned it out so that it showed they were about 65% of the year in NY and 35% of the year in MA. Their standard deductions were prorated the same way. And the income shown was only the income from each state, so I'm not sure what happened to yours, but usually when they send you a different amount than you submitted, they send you a revised tax return.
