I'm so depressed!!!!

I'm so depressed!!!!

Last week my favorite uncle passed away. I was extremly close to him more than my own father. He didn't have any kids and considered us his own. My wedding is in 2 months and I feel so out of it. I feel like I don't want to get married anymore. All i do is cry and wish he were here. Do you think I should postpone the wedding? or should I do something to remember him there? My good friend said everyone would get depressed if we do that. I think she is right. Weddings are suppose to be a happy occasion when I know deep in my heart I will be sad.

I'm very sorry for your loss, but I don't think you should postpone the wedding. As far as doing something for him at the wedding, you should follow your heart. Yes, it may make people a little sad, but if you feel strongly about it than go ahead. A lot of times one candle is lit in loving memory of all deceaed relatives and you can also write something special in your program. Feel better!

So sorry for your loss!!

I would tell you not to postpone. It will give you a happy occassion to celebrate.

DH's sister passed away less than two months before our wedding and we were very sad (she was only 47) but it was a wonderful thing to have family get together for a reason other than a wake (DH's mom passed away less than a year prior).

I don't think you should postpone your wedding. I do think doing something to remember your Uncle is a wonderful idea.

My FH and I both lost our fathers within the last year. We are having a moment of rememberance during our ceremony and we are also have a memory table setup at the reception which will have a short poem and pictures of our fathers along with pictures of our grandparents.

Remember, your Uncle loves you and he will be with you in spirit. He will want you to be happy and to continue your life. I know you miss him, but its all part of the circle of life...

In my opinion, you should not postpone the wedding. It is only natural how you feel because you were so close to this person and you are in the grieving process. I think your uncle would not want you to postpone your wedding. Since you were so close to him, you should definitely make something special to honor his memory and let everyone know how much he meant to you. I'm sorry you are going through this and your wedding is so close but know that wherever he is, he is sending you blessings as you start your new life with your FH. I send you tons of

First I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

I don't think that you should postpone your wedding. I doubt that is what your Uncle would want. I lost my brothers. I wanted to remember them, my grandmother and everyone that could not be there with us. I chose to recognize them in the program. I put a simple statement 'In loving memory of those who will always live on in our hearts.' Above that I put the yen-yan symbol , which is what we use to represent my siblings. It was subtle, but people noticed it and did not find it depressing. In fact those that knew and loved them found it comforting.

I am soooo sorry for your loss...

I would definitely not postpone your wedding. It might be nice if you had like a memory table of some of your family members who have passed, but other than that, it is a happy moment and know that he will be with you!

WOW! I am so sorry for your loss. I wouldn't postpone it as well. I think your uncle would want you to go through with it and besides he's got the best seat in the house.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

A similar thing happened last year when my Aunt passed away unexpectedly. My cousin (her son) had his wedding planned for 2 months after that. They still went through with it knowing that she would want them to do it and be happy starting their lives together. Emotionally it was a little hard, but it made them so happy and looking back it was the right thing to do for them.

I don't think you should postpone if you can handle it emotionally. I'm sure he would want you to be happy.
You could do something subtle in his memory, but nothing too big because you don't want people (including yourself) getting too upset.

I wish you the best

I just want to add that last year was also hard because of all the losses in my family. In addition to others, we also lost my favorite uncle four months after my aunt. My mom has none of her immediate family members left now.

It was a tough time and I understand what you are going through. If you need anything, I'm here to listen.

I'm sorry about your loss. Def. go through with it. Weddings are emotional roller coasters, it may be sad but with your family and friends there for support you'll get through it. You can memorialize your uncle with a candle or in the program, or with a sentimental item.

Be strong.

Thank you all for your support. When I'm reading these posts tears are coming down. I really appreciate all your support. I will probably have to go through with it, i'm sure the hall won't let me postpone for a few months.

Re: I'm so depressed!!!!

I'm soooooo sorry for your loss.... and even more that we made you cry (awwww)... but what you're going through is completely normal. Just go with it. Cry when you want to. Be sad when you want to be. You'll definitely feel better with time. You'll never forget your uncle, no matter what, but I agree with everyone... don't postpone. Your uncle would have loved for you to continue with your plans.

As for the memory, I would say go for it. Me & FH are honoring our deceased dads that evening. There have been many suggestions (i.e., empty chairs for where they'd be sitting, a memory table, etc). What I plan on doing is keeping a picture of my dad with me the entire night (probably inside my glove), and I will dance 'Unforgettable' with my brother, after he gives a speech that it's dedicated to him.

Once again, i'm sooooooo sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
Do what makes you feel the most comfortable. Although I dont think that your uncle would want you to put off your wedding which WILL bring happiness to you and your family...
