We closed on our house 3/18 and are supposed to move in tomorrow. We hired a contractor to pretty much gut the house and he assured us over and over again everything would be ready in time... well, I just checked, and the kitchen isn't even finished - no sink, no counter, nothing is connected! He promised to hire someone to clean all the filth he left in the house, and it wasn't done, so now we have to move all our furniture into a filthy house! He screwed up our a/c and promised to fix it, and low and behold, it's not fixed... To top it off we had reserved a UHaul truck and now they tell me the closest truck is 45 miles away and not available until 3pm, when my friends are coming to help tomorrow at 9am and will be leaving by 2pm... what else can go wrong, really?

Hell no! We still owe a few grand, and trust me, he won't be seeing that anytime soon

And even holding that money over his head, he still didn't finish on time or give your enough of a heads up that he won't be done

I am sorry to hear about the problems with your contractor. I know you are going to hold back final payment and you should, but trust me, be nice. This guy can make the situation worse by not finishing at all. I hope everything works out but if he is not holding up his end of the contract there are courses of action you can take. A call to the Better Business Bureau with his EIN will change his tune. All it takes is one complaint to ruin/damage ones credability. FM me and let me know what happens.
