I'm taking it personally...should I be? UPDATE

I'm taking it personally...should I be? UPDATE

So, my shower is a surprise, but unfortunately FMIL ruined that for me. What else is new - therefore, MOH has kept me up to date about rsvp's and that kinda stuff. Additionally, I know who was invited bc I gave the list to MOH. Yesterday was the RSVP deadline.

None of FH's family except for his mother and aunt rsvp'd (and his aunt said no bc of prior engagement and FH had to yell at his mom to rsvp bc apparently she didn't know what that meant?!) - leaving about 10 people who did not respond from his side.

4 of my friends rsvp'd, but 10 plus didn't. There are two girls who are currently on the outs with MOH, and THEY rsvp'd !! So if they could, why couldn't the others?!

I feel really shtty about this, like no one wants to come to my shower. As it stands, it's going to be a couple of my friends and all my mom's friends/ My relatives live all over and aren't flying in for it, so my Aunt's and cousins won't even be there.

Am I being self-centered by letting this upset me?
How hard is it to respond ?!?!

Do they think it is weird since you already had the Hindu wedding? Plus, didn't they not have to RSVP to that one?

Only a couple of friends were invited to the hindu wedding, and all my friends know it was just for Fh's side of the family.

In regards to FH's family - the only people invited to the shower were the ones who are 'Americanized' (i.e. his Mom's side)- and have known about the November wedding since the onset. They weren't really involved in the hindu wedding. Plus, the invite clearly says RSVP (so i've been told).

Is it a Guyanese thing not to rsvp? Maybe? But my friends, too?!!?

Don't let it upset you. I had one shower here in NY and another in CA and I could say about 30% of all invited guests RSVP'd... like are you kidding?

Just give the duty of calling the ppl to your FH or MOH. You shouldn't have to deal with this stress, you have enough with the wedding RSVP

this. people really suck at rsvp-ing, whether it is dropping a card in the mailbox, picking up the phone, or jotting off a 5 word email. it's really not about you personally...definitely don't take it that way hun!

Re: I'm taking it personally...should I be?

i invited 40 people to my shower and only about 20 are coming.

i was really upset at first, but i realized that it's quality, not quantity that matters and the people that mean the most will be there.

you're going to have an amazing shower either way.

Well, I'm not sure how much better I feel. Most people are saying no and giving excuses. I really don't care. But MOH said my mom is freaking because they didn't anticipate so many no's. I had MOH send out two more invites (e-vites).

If this is how the wedding is going to be, shoot me now.

my mom was a little disappointed with the response she got too, but like i said, your shower is still going to be amazing b/c the people that matter the most will be there.
