I'm the only 'Smith' at my wedding.....

I'm the only 'Smith' at my wedding.....

OK, so Smith isn't my real last name.....
But I am going to be the only 'Smith' at my wedding. It's so sad. I'm wondering if anyone else had this happen.
I've posted before about the situation with my dad, and I kept his last name even though I don't have a relationship with him. He has 7 siblings and they each have at least 3 children, meaning I have nearly 30 first cousins on my dad's side. I invited some of the ones close to my age to our wedding, plus uncles, aunts, great uncles, great aunts (the ones I speak with still). I couldnt invite my brother because he's mad at me, and my dad sent back my STD. (That's for another post, though.)
What I'm sad about now is that the RSVPs are coming in and NO ONE from my dad's side is coming. So I will be the only person with my last name at my wedding. It sounds very cheesey that I'm sad about this, but c'mon. My mom called some of the aunts/uncles on my father's side and they're all saying it's due to having to drive far, work schedules, someone's in school, etc. They all came to my sister's wedding in 1999 and they had to drive to MA for that. They even came to my bro-in-law's 40th bday party in 2002 and they had to drive to MA for that too.
I'm just sad and I think I'm frustrated that I'm upset these people aren't coming. I feel like I shouldn't care but I do.

I'm in the same boat, none of my fathers family will be at my wedding. My father will be there but that's it. It's all due to the crap that happened when my parents got divorced and I've always somehow been stuck in the middle.

So, I know what you're saying and although we shouldn't really care, it still feels horrible.

Sorry to hear that. I would be upset too, but just be happy about the people who are coming...

Very few of my side of the family came to my wedding, and almost none of my mother's side came at all. Most of the people from my side were friends of my parents. They were more reliable than our own family. I know how you feel. It hurts. But it's them, not you. I can never understand how family can say no to a wedding. It's not like people get married every year! It's a special event, and they should just come.

Thanks, girls.
I told FH that all friends should be seated on my side of the church so my side doesn't look empty. His family is GIANT...his dad is one of five and his mom is one of 7 and all his cousins are extremely close. It's embarrassing but I do know it's not me....it's just hard to explain to people.

This is what we did for the reception. All friends of ours sat on my side. I don't know what we did for the ceremony.

Don't feel bad I had the same as you!! My father is not in my life nor his family. I was the only one with my last name!! What doesn't kill us makes us stronger!! But my wedding was a real emotional wake up call about my father!! If you need to talk FM!
