One of my best friends Jen (littletinypeep) just got engaged on Valentines Day this year. Her wedding was going to be next spring, but for family reasons she has to have it this fall. That is totally OK with me. The problem is since it is such short notice the church only has 2 dates available...Oct 1 and Oct 8...and I will be on my honeymoon!!!!! I am really upset I do not want to miss her wedding. We were suppossed to leave Hawaii on Oct 7th at night. How long is the flight back? I really want to make it so I asked my FH if we can leave a little earlier Thursday so we might be able to make it home. He said no he would rather be in Hawaii!!!!!!! I am sooo upset. I didn't book our flights yet, can anyone tell me how long the flight is? I am trying so hard to work something out...

The flight is 16hours but there is also a time difference which I am not sure what it is exactly.

If you leave around 9am Thursday morning from Oahu (not sure where you're going in Hawaii) you get in at around 2:30 Friday afternoon...but that's a non-stop flight.

It depends on how long your stop over is. The trip can be easily 10 hours or more. And you lose time because you are flying through time zones.
Talk to you FH again. No one wants to cut their honeymoon early, but if you really want to be there for your friend let him know.

I would try to talk it over with your FH. Maybe if he sees how much this means to you, he will be willing to leave a day earlier.

Our flight leaves at 9pm on a monday and lands in NY at 330 pm on Tuesday. This is with a stopover in LA, I think its a hour long.

I agree. You guys should probably leave there on Wednesday to get home for her Friday wedding. I guess the best thing is to try to think of what she would do in your situation. If she would cut her honeymoon short by 1 day, I think it's probably what you have to do then.

The honeymoon is already booked because FH's brother gave us their timeshare as our wedding gift. It has been booked for a while now, but we didn't book the flights yet. I want to try to leave as early as we can on Thurs and hopefully get a nonstop flight and make it back? I am looking for flights right now. What is the major Hawaiian airport? We will be going to Oahu first and then Kauai... Is the major airport Honolulu International (on Oahu)???

this is just me - but i have a HUGE problem with someone who got engaged two weeks ago, picking a date that interfered with already set plans. i can completely see your FH's side of this. you guys had plans already set. what would you have done if she picked the october 1st date? cancelled your HM all together??
on the flip side - i certainly understand you wanting to be at your friend's wedding. would you be in the BP??

You'd probably fly out of Lihue, Kauai Airport. I think the code is LIH. What time is her wedding? If you're in the BP, that may be cutting it pretty close.

It is not like she is picking the date on purpose to interfere with my plans. It is not in her control. She already apologized so many times and said she woill understand if I can't come. If she ends up usiong Oct 1 then I won't go. But if she uses Oct 8 and there is a chance I can be there, I want to be there. I will not be in the bridal party. My FH understands that I want to go but he also says it is our honeymoon and he doesn't want to cut it short. It will only be a day less! But he said we will talk about it later (I just found out about this now). I want to have info to show him tongith (flights, etc) so we can see if this is realistic. My friend will probably be on here tonight annoucing her date

i would just hate to see you cut your HM short to make the wedding and then something happens with flight times and delays, etc. with flights that long, something is bound to go wrong. we spent a full day in LA on our way to Tahiti because of flight delays.

from NY to California was 8hrs and then from California to Oahu was another 8hrs
keep in mind that the time changes as you fly across the diff. time zones......hawaii is like 5 hrs behind NY

ohhh that is upsetting. This happen to my friend also she is getting married in June and her friend the week after so sshe will be on her honeymoon...she is upset she is missing it, but her friend knew when she booked her date, so there is really nothing that can be done. is your friend set on getting married in that church..did she try her FI church or even reception locations..maybe she can get the end of October.
