This week he tried out for a travel baseball team, the odds were against him to begin with. The coach took most of his players from another league and basically had try outs just to have them. He never had the intention of getting new players. Never once did he acknowledge any great plays Brandon made, but of course had comments for all his 'boys' Most kids would have quit after the first day, Brandon stuck it out for all 3 days and when the phone call never came yesterday saying he made the team he said 'It's politics, not my ability, I'll just play that much better any time we face them to make him see what he missed out on' All that from a 10 year old. You could say my heart broke for him but I was VERY impressed with his attitude.

It is very evident by how he handled the situation that you are teaching him how to handle himself in the 'real'world - a real testament to you as a MOM.

Thats a very smart young man you have. You have every right to be proud.
Its a shame that a 10yo has to be worldly about what should be a fun game.

Thanks Ladies, I was soo devastated for him that I cried but not where he could see. It is a pity that some coaches are all about winning and forget about having a love for the game

I am very proud of his attitude too. I have to give you a lot of credit too. I coach softball, and some of the parents are NEUROTIC!!!!!
I commend the both of you

awwww Michelle, what a wonderful young man! With an outlook like that at the age of 10, your little boy will be going places! He'll always be a step ahead of all the turkeys that try to get you down along the road of life.

I also think this is a testament to YOU. Someone is teaching your son how to deal with disappointment well.
I think it is really sad that an adult coach of a baseball team feels it is necessary to single out 'favorites' and not give ALL the children a fair chance. I mean, we are not talking about major league teams here. how sad that he doesn't care about children and yet, he is a coach.

Michelle, Brandon sounds like a terrific young man. You should be proud of him, and of yourself for the wonderful parenting you have done. It's obvious that he has learned a lot from Mom!!!
