Imitation Kenneth Pool Dress . . . a little annoyed
Maybe I'm overreacting, but I just wanted to see if this would bother anyone else. I went with my mom today to look for dresses for her for the wedding. We walked into this small bridal boutique not far from my home which also specializes in eveningwear. As soon as we walk in I see on display a dress that looks almost identical to my wedding gown. I could tell something was off, but the dress was definitely a copy. So I asked the lady about the dress and she told me that someone saw the Kenneth Pool Degas dress in another store, so they made it for her. Are they even allowed to do this?? The difference was more in the back of the dress, where they added beading and a bow. The beading on the top was the same style except the Kenneth Pool dress is obviously a better quality and more detailed beading design.
Afterwards it sort of bothered me, I love my dress, and not bc it's a Kenneth Pool, but still they completely ripped off the style of the dress. I should've taken a picture to show everyone, from far away it looks like the same dress. Should I just get over it??

yes. seamstresses make copies of dresses all the time and you can buy them from several sites online. as long as they arent trying to pass it off as the designers i really dont see why there should be a problem with it........

No worries. Worst is if they try to sell a designer dress when its in fact a copy.
It happens all they time and they're brides that cannot afford the Kenneth Pool prices therefore, they seek out to the seamstress for a their dream dress or a similar style for a fraction of the cost.
It's ok...you have your Kenny and that's all that matters

Yeah I guess you girls are right, It seems as if this store does that a lot. Every time I asked who makes the dress she said it was made for the store. Never really thought about it. It was just that my initial reaction when I walked in was oh wow look mom my dress, and then I was like wait that's not my dress. Oh well . . ..

As long as she is not passing it on as an orginal KP It would not bother me. Dress designer all copy one another. Forever Yours has a dress similar to KP Degas and do other designer.

I would be annoyed if she was saying that the dress in the window was a Kenneth Pool

Honestly, I dont see anything to get annoyed over. It's not like the Kenneth Pool dress you are going to be wearing was designed especially for you and someone copied it. If it was a custom made dress for you, then I'd say be ticked off. But thousands of other girls wear this dress too. Why can't someone who possibly can't afford a KP dress have that same style?

I agree...i think its great that someone who can't afford KP can have the dress of their dreams...as long as they aren't trying to say that is a KP then I dont see a problem with it...

I completely see your points, I guess it was just my initial reaction, I'm over it. Funny thing is, she told me she saved the girl $600. So it wasn't that much less expensive

Same here. But other than that, who cares. You know your dress is the original- it shouldn't bother you that seamstresses make copies of dresses- they have been doing that forever.
