I took imitrex for the first time this morning when I had the aura part of the migraine. I then went to work and felt really nauseous and lightheaded on the train, also very hot and tingly (but I was also sitting in between two fat men on the LIRR!) Has anyone else had weird side effects like this from imitrex? I must admit, the headache part isn't half as bad as it usually is w/ no meds, but I thought I was going to throw up on the train!!

Re: Imitrex side effects?
I had the same side effects. The headache wore off before the side effects. By this afternoon you should be feeling more like yourself.

Thanks! I actually feel a little bit better now that I've eaten something. I don't know if I would have felt that bad if I had just stayed home or if attempting to go to work aggravated the side effects. Anyone else have weird feelings on this med?

What strength pill? The doctor that originally prescribed it for me gave me the 25mg and never had any issues. When I went to a new doctor she prescribed the 50mg which had me a bit dizzy and weird the first few times I took it.

Same thing here. Sometimes I double guess myself for taking it! I feel sick - but never actually get sick - and I definitely feel dizzy as if I'm not really there. It's not very comfortable and so I try to take Aleve before considering the Imitrex because I hate it. The migraine does eventually go away and so do the symptoms after a while on the Imitrex but I hate that it happens everytime!

I don't remember, I think it was a fairly low dose one. I might try to call my doctor later to see if maybe a lower dose would be better for me.

I either take the 100mg tablets or the injections which I administer myself. The side effects you described are totally normal. Nausea, dizziness, tingling, funny sensations in your throat....they are all very common side effects.
I could not LIVE w/o imitrex!

Ditto for me! And like I said, I only had side effects (mostly dizziness) when I first switched to a bigger dosage.

Re: Imitrex side effects?
Well, I feel fine now believe it or not, without the usual 'hung over' feeling I have after having the migraine. I am tired, though. Maybe I got so sick b/c I took it on an empty stomach? Not sure. The headache definitely was better than w/o, and I usually feel naseous and weak anyway with a migraine, so I don't know if maybe this was slightly better. However, I was looking for medicine that would make me not get those other feelings, too, something that I could take and know that I could go to work.

Re: Imitrex side effects?
Damn, I hate the migraine hangover!!! When I get a fullblown migraine and don't take Imitrex, I'm usually down for another 24 hours AFTER the headache is gone!
I'm thinking the empty stomach definitely contributed to the side effects.
