Re: Immma about to switch 'The Knot'......

I started over at the knot, but didn't really like it too much......talk about 'cliques'!!!! Never really made me feel too included........especially since I was an '07 girl...........they made me feel like what the eff was wrong with me for waiting so long and I kinda got the impression that they didn't really want to help me in any way because my wedding was not in '06.

I should clarity that it was not EVERYONE on the knot........some girls were very nice........but it's nothing like here.

So Cee, you keep your butt planted!!! Where we love you!!!

Adana Ive heard that too! (Regarding the stay at home mom stuff.) What about setting a good example for your children and being a career oriented, professional, responsible, loving, working mother! I dont understand how people can knock working women in this day and age YET it happens every day! Someone once told me my children will be disadvantaged because I wont be at home. You should have seen the look on my face. Thankfully FI made me bite my tongue! lol I dont even have children yet at she was already calling them disadvantaged - lol I just had to laugh.

HAve to agree- that whole SAHM works for some but doesnt work for others..there is nothing wrong with working! BLAH on them for being so closed minded

I hear ya

There is no right way or wrong way - its what works for the individual. I dont flame people for being a stay at home mom but d ont judge me for wanting to work. Afterall I did spend 60,000+ earning two degrees so I def. will be getting my moneys worth by working!

oh yes I was called a bad mother (have no kids yet) that my kids would be disadvantaged, that I was immature if I didn't see that I needed to be a SAHM all that. Someone even told me I shouldn't have children because I'd screw them up. I didn't spend almost 100K getting an education to sit at home in debt for the rest of my life. If I could work at home or be a stay at home parent, I would try it but my family can't afford that at all.

I know people who have parents that are rolling in $$$ and they are more screwed up then some of the people I know who have parents who work their butts off!
I child doesnt become screwy b/c a parent works, they become screwy b/c their parents dont nurture and care for them, and teach them the right things. If you have good values and you are able to teach them and get them to learn and understand those values then a child will grow to be a respectful adult. You teach your child non sense and watch what they do!!!!

Your children will be just fine....its just ignorance and ignorance is bliss!

oh no, you can't go anywhere!!!

I must be the worst mother in the world according to the Knot. I work fulltime, plus starting a pt job. They must all marry millionairs to be able to stay at home w/their children. I wish I could do that! I stayed home the first year w/my son and I made a darn good housewife!!!

But my son seeing me work hard for the things we have shows him a greater appreciation of the things we do have.

I agree with you, Laura! I know that seeing my mom work so hard to take care of me and my sister as well as finally buying her own house, made me realize the value of hard work and what it feels like when you finally accomplish something through your own hard work. I think it's so sad that some people think staying at home is the only way to be a good parent. It's like when J LO made the stupidest comment about how you can't be a good wife, mother and businesswoman, something will suffer. Bullsh!t. I can do it all because I have support. My mom did it even without support for several years.

- I wear ten hats I tell ya. I work fulltime out of the house, fulltime in the house, fulltime mom, partime employee - and during summer ptbabysitter so my girlfriend and I can both work w/out sacrificing everything we have to daycare!!!

Strong women inspire their children. The more you do, the more they see the more they appreciate the little things. Like baking cookies w/your children on your day off.

My son is turning 8 and the other night he took his laundry from me and folded it and put it away. - Why? because he see's me do it and took it upon himself to create some responsibility for himself! It was rewarded indeed! This weekend hopefully I am going to take him indoor rock climbing!!!

Re: Immma about to switch 'The Knot'......

I can't believe people still think that way. My parents both worked. My mother was a school teacher for 38 years, my dad a truck driver. My sister and I had all the love and support any two kids could have. I had friends who mothers were home, and they still got into trouble, cut school just didn't care.

I believe child react to what they see, if you show them a strong woman doing thing in the home and out, they too will grow to be strong.

I had my daughter at the age of 19, her father and I were never really together (that's another story)
but I made sure that she saw that with or without a father figure, she can be anything she wanted.
Yes, both my parents helped me and her, but I was the main caretaker. She saw me go to work and school.
Now I'm happy to say that my daughter has not only made me proud by graduating from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor degree in Sociology and Psychology, she also graduated from Stony Brook University with a Masters degree in Sociology.
Every child and family are different, but I believe that all a child needs is love and care from a parent, and for that parent to show them the right and wrong in life.
