For my budget Wedding, we had originally anticipated only having a Maid of Honor and a Best Man, but the Fiance would like his three best friends in the Party. Then, I sort of felt like if he had his three best friends, he should have my brother.
So, what are the costs associated with a larger wedding party vs. a smaller wedding party? Obviously, there's the gifts, but if we're having the ceremony at the same place as the reception, I was okay with not using a Limo and just arriving in cars and staying put.
Since we only have a guest list of about 100-110 and only 20 or so of them are non-family friends, I thought it might be dumb to have another eight of them in the Wedding Party.
What are your thoughts/experiences?
Thank you!

It will be gifts, inviting them to the rehearsal dinner, probably hair and makeup for the girls

The extra costs we're paying for having a larger bridal party is for their gifts, an extra limo, and more bouquets and boutenniere's.
Yes these things do add up, I could prob be saving about $2,000 if I had a smaller bridal party(the extra limo alone was expensive), but what's done is done. Another extra cost would be more people at the rehearsal dinner, but fmil is paying for that.

there are also mental costs the more people you have to worry about the more chaotic it gets. I wish I just kept it to an MOH and best man.

Re: Implications of a Large Wedding Party vs Small?
I am having about 100 people (including like 15 kids) at my wedding and we chose to keep our BP to out siblings only.
We will have 1 maid of honor (my sister) one matron of honor (his sister) and one best man (my brother)
We wanted to keep it small to avoid drama and to not put half of our guests in the BP!

For us, the only difference is the number of gifts we have to purchase. We're not paying for the BMs' hair/makeup. I've been in tons of bridal parties and there was only one time when the bride did that. Too expensive to add on to everything else.

this
but if these people mean a lot to you, then i'd say throw them in - you only get married once (hopefully)
also, keep in mind, things happen over time so maybe dont announce it until youre around the 1year mark. i've already had 1 groomsman drop out and one is half way out the door

Re: Implications of a Large Wedding Party vs Small?
We kept our bridal party small and it saved us a ton of headaches. No one got offended since we only included our siblings. I wouldn't keep the party small because of a cost factor but because of a headache factor! Trust me, everyone is going to have an opinion and the smaller the party, the lesser the opinions. good luck....
