Important to talk about....
Hi girls! I just read that public annoucement thread and it got me thinking a lot. I think we should all be able to talk about things in a mature fashion without attacking people and their beliefs, after all that's what this board is all about.
The way this person who started the thread made her point was a bit abrupt to say the least, and I think we can all agree on that. She did make a point however (I think). Sometimes us as brides might ask a lot or ask unreasonable things out of our bridal party. I am not going to sit here and list whats appropriate and what's not, we all have different opinions. As a former BM and as a Bride now, I have been on both sides of the fence and can see from both perspectives.
Here's some of the things I was thinking.
1. If you can't afford to be in a BP, you MUST decline!!! You can't give what you don't have. Being in a BP is really EXPENSIVE (specially these days)
and if your friend can't understand that, well...that's a problem and you should really re think your friendship.
2. As a BM you need to be flexible. Try to accomodate the brides requests. (Ex: BP wears their hair up, doesn't matter how, just up, wearing same color shoes, etc...)
3. Be courteous with Brides time line (get your dress in time, etc...)
4. Don't be catty with other BMs, compromise, be involved with plans. (I wouldn't want to pay for a shower I wasn't involved in planning either)
5. As a Bride, YOU need to be reasonable too. (Ex: You all have to wear mauve lipstick and matching nail polish!!) come on now, let's pick our battles!
6. As a bride be understanding, give them plenty of time to get their things done for the wedding (Ex:
You have 4 days to get your dress, shoes, etc...)
Well this is all I can think for now, but you guys get the idea! This forum is really important and I've learned a great deal here and I think we should all be able to discuss what we think like big girls!!!!
Feel free to add more thoughts!
XOXOXO
Kitty
