Important Wedding Issue...

Important Wedding Issue...

So FH just calls and says that his friend, who was minister and was going to marry us, just called to say that since he is not active in a church anymore, he can not legally marry us. He can preform the ceremony, but we will have to have someone else make it legal.

This *****!!! And I don't know know what to do...

I can't tell him to forget it and we'll find someone else, that would hurt is feelings. But where do I find someone to make is legal? Are their Justice of the Peace in New York?
Should we make it legal the day before?

Another headache I don't need

Sorry ....

I think someone one here posted something like this in their review recently. I think you can have a justice of the peace come to your ceremony and just watch, sort of, and sign the marriage license.

Or -- he can get ordained online from another group and still marry you???

Can you book an officiant and have them both do it?

You can get married the day before at the town clerks office- we went to the town of Hempstead just to get our license the other day and saw folks getting married there.. then you can have the 'ceremony' and it would still be legal and all since you were married the day before by a justice of the peace.

I know there is a fee for this and that you have to make an appointment.

Or you can ask your FH's friend to get ordained online- that shouldn't take too long for him to do.

I think you can get a judge to marry you.

I think you can go to the town where you are getting married and ask for a officiant to go and make it legal on the day of... They charge like 75 to go somewhere (I think) HTH

That is an excellent idea! $75 would be perfect!

Umm...is there a good reason why he is not affiliated with the church anymore? I might ask that question before I made any decisions on where to go from here - If it is not a very good reason, I might not feel so bad telling him that you have to get someone else to do it.

It isn't for a bad reason. He left the church to start a teen outreach center with his wife. They help 'troubled' teens and their parents.

why cant you ust tell him to forget it.. he told you that he is not active anymore and cannot perform it.. I would look up an officiant and maybe have him be the one thta signs the marriage license so he is till a part of your special day.. Im sure he will understand

be careful about online ordination this was the route we were gonna go and our lawyer advised against it because nystate wording on marriage laws is tricky and they have been overturned in the past... nyc much easier than nystate... but long island considered nystate... poo.

Re: Important Wedding Issue...

we are using nymarriages - Keith Gugliuzza as our officiant.

Either you use your person and get it legalized at the court house or book another officiant.

Maybe you can encorporate him into the service - i.e. he does the monologue and runs the ceremony the officiant just does whatever part he has to do to make it legal? This could be as little as signing the document?
